Excellence in Debating

Last term, St Helena debaters were kept very busy as they participated in three DAV debates.

Our C Grade (Year 10 level) team, comprised of Nila D., Tvisha A., Duscha R., and Asher A., had the difficult task of having only one hour to prepare for each of their debates before presenting their speeches on a wide variety of topics. One stand-out win was against Xavier College. The team also showcased their talent when debating the topic ‘That we regret the rise of social media as a primary news source’ against Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School. Nila D. was awarded best speaker in Round 3.

Our D Grade (Year 9 level) teams similarly argued their stances with rigour, also having numerous wins.St Helena 1, comprised of Sasha W., Caitlin P., Ashlyn H., Devika S., and Maddie Ta., remain undefeated as they enter Round 5 this week. During Term 2, they had successful wins against Ivanhoe Grammar School and Preston High School. Best speaker awards went to Maddie T., Caitlin P., and Sasha W. St Helena 2, comprised of Joshua D., Eva S., Mitali P., and Jeremy V., also had many successes with highlights being their strong wins against Alphington Grammar School and Ivanhoe Grammar University. Best speaker awards went to Mitali P. and Duscha R. when she filled in during Round 4. St Helena 3 team members, Joshua D., Celeste P., Nathanial F., and Matilda B., had many close debates, but in Round 4 had a convincing win against Xavier College. Matilda B. was awarded best speaker in that debate.

All debaters are to be congratulated for their efforts and for representing St Helena Secondary College so finely. I wish them luck in their respective debates this week.

AFLW Progress To State Finals

Congratulations to our Interediate AFLW team who continue to shine and have won through to the All State finals taking place on Monday in Ballarat. A huge achievement! 

Senior Girls Netball Progress To State Finals
