The Principal

Daniel Stephens - College Principal (Acting)

As we move through the term, I continue to be reminded of the many accomplishments and contributions that make St Helena Secondary College such a special community.

Over the past fortnight, I have had the privilege of celebrating excellence across our college community.

One of the highlights has been hosting our Semester 1 Principal Awards for students in Years 7 to 12. These awards recognise students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement or significant growth in their learning. It was wonderful to see so many students acknowledged for their hard work, commitment and determination. While academic success is certainly worthy of celebration, it was equally pleasing to recognise students whose persistence and effort have resulted in substantial improvement over time.

It was particularly pleasing to welcome parents/carers and grandparents to the ceremony. Seeing families join their child to celebrate these achievements was a wonderful reminder that success in education is often supported by a strong partnership between students, families and staff. These achievements are a testament to the positive learning culture that exists across our college and the support provided by our dedicated staff and families.

I would also like to acknowledge and congratulate Ms Hong Tay, who recently celebrated 35 years of service with the Department of Education. This remarkable milestone reflects a lifetime of dedication to public education and to supporting generations of young people in their learning. Having been a member of the St Helena Secondary College community since 1990, Hong has made an extraordinary contribution to our school over more than three decades. Through her teaching of Mathematics, she has inspired and supported countless students, helping them develop confidence in their learning while maintaining high expectations and a genuine commitment to their success. Her professionalism, expertise and unwavering dedication to young people have left a lasting impact on our college, and we thank her for the significant contribution she continues to make each day.

As you read through this edition of the newsletter, you will see many examples of students and staff striving for excellence, whether through academic achievement, co-curricular participation or contributions to our school community. From our students' success in debating, to engaging learning experiences in the classroom, these stories are a wonderful reflection of the talent, effort and enthusiasm that exists throughout our college.

Thank you for your ongoing support of St Helena Secondary College.
