Dear SJV Families,

It’s hard to believe how quickly this term has passed. With the holidays just around the corner, I’d like to take a moment to reflect and offer some heartfelt thanks.

As this is our final newsletter for the term, I want to sincerely thank all our families for your ongoing support of the teaching and learning programs at SJV. Your partnership and commitment to our school community are greatly valued.

A special thank you also goes to our dedicated staff, who have gone above and beyond each week. With frequent staff absences due to illness, many have stepped into additional or unfamiliar roles, taking on extra yard duties, larger classes, and supporting students who have also missed valuable learning time. Their flexibility, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to our students have been exceptional.

To our amazing students, thank you for your resilience and adaptability. Whether faced with a different teacher for the day or learning in a different classroom setting, you have continued to show focus, positivity, and a genuine love of learning. You have demonstrated exactly what it means to be flexible, respectful, and committed to your learning.

I wish all students, staff, and families a safe, restful, and healthy winter break. I hope the holidays provide an opportunity to relax, spend time with loved ones, and return refreshed for another exciting term ahead.

Finally just a reminder that students conclude for Term 2 tomorrow at 1pm. The early finish is a necessity as the basketball court and the concrete outside the Year 1/2 classrooms is being prepared to be ripped up over the school holidays as well as the PFA and sports sheds being demolished.

Please make sure you read through the whole newsletter especially the PFA/Fete page as much is happening next term.

First Communion

On Sunday the 14th of June some students from St John Vianney’s received the Eucharist for the first time. Congratulations to the following students:

Leo Barca, Sarah Cardoso Ferreira, Flynn Dixon, Dusty Drinan, Kasch Drinan, Julia Farnfield, Santino Giovanni, Zoe Hodgson, Leon Kyrylovych, Lukian Kyrylovych,

Amalia McGaw, Zoe McKay, Ollie Rodrigo, Alex Scott, Federica Spina, Walter Vanderheiden, Orlando Vieceli, Hudson Wallace and Willem Woldhuis.

Thank you to Kerry Slater, Luke Brownhill, Rebecca Middleton, Fr. Justin, the parents and the children for making the First Communion such a special day and to the many staff who attended. These combined efforts have helped nurture the faith of our young disciples and made this milestone a truly prayerful and meaningful celebration.

Please view photos on the Religious Education Page of the newsletter.

"Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’" – John 6:35

SJV Athletics Carnival

Last Friday, the 19th of June, the students participated in our annual SJV Athletics Carnival at Mentone Athletic Track. It was a beautiful day and the weather Gods were again smiling upon us. The day was a great success and the students thoroughly enjoyed the events. Congratulations to all involved on the day and especially to Blue house who took out the title and won. A special thanks to Mrs Monotti for her organisation and running of the day and to the staff and parent helpers who assisted with running the events.

Working Bee

Last Friday afternoon, a number of parents attended a Working Bee to help clean out the PFA shed. The Working Bee was a great success, with the work completed efficiently and in a short amount of time.

A special thank you to Ben Radford (father of Layla in Year 1) for his organisation, leadership, and support in coordinating the afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who generously gave their time to assist. By working together, we can ensure everything is safely relocated and ready for the next stage of our exciting building project.

St Vincent de Paul

Over the past few weeks, our Social Justice Team and Year 6 Leaders have been busy organising our Winter Appeal to support members of our community in need during the colder months.

Students and families generously contributed to our can drive and donated a range of winter clothing items, including warm jackets, jumpers, scarves and blankets. We are incredibly grateful for the kindness and generosity shown by our school community.

As part of the appeal, a school disco was held with a gold coin donation entry. The disco was a fantastic success, raising $175 for the Winter Appeal while providing students with a fun and memorable evening.

Thank you to everyone who donated items, attended the disco, and supported this important initiative. Your generosity will make a meaningful difference to those in need this winter.

A Word from DJ Rococo

Hey, hey, it’s DJ Rococo!

It was an amazing event to support St Vincent de Paul, and we raised $175. Being the DJ for the school disco was so much fun!

On the Monday before the disco, Poppy and I collected all the song requests. It was super fun to see that some students requested AC/DC songs because I thought AC/DC was about 1,000 years old!

There were lots of popular songs played, including Lush Life and Pink Pony Club, and everyone was dancing and singing along. We also had Mr Lane helping us with the lights and smoke machine, which made the disco even more exciting.

All the students were so loud, energetic and such great dancers. I loved seeing everyone getting involved and having fun. I really enjoyed being a DJ, and one of the best parts was hearing the Prep students calling out, "DJ Rococo!" as I was leaving school.

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the disco such a great success!

Parkdale - Conference of St Vincent de Paul

It is that time of year where we at Parkdale East Conference of St Vincent de Paul hold our Winter Appeal. This year the focus is on homelessness. We were very pleased to welcome Sienna and Angelina from the SJV Mini Vinnies, to share with us at Mass, what they have been doing to support the homeless. We are so grateful to the Mini Vinnies and the school community for donations of food and other winter necessities.  We will use these donations to make up our Winter Hampers which will be distributed and be very welcomed by those in need.

Thank you, Sienna and Angelina for being brave and speaking so beautifully at Mass. The parishioners were delighted to hear about your fundraising and we hope you all enjoy your Pajama day.

Parkdale East Conference of SVDP have been part of our community for over 50 years and we continue to do our best to support our companions. I have been part of this conference for 15 years and one my roles on the committee is to liaise with the primary school. Please feel free to contact me if

  • You or someone you know would like some support
  • You would like to know some more about the work we do
  • If you would be interested in joining our conference

I look forward to bringing you further updates about our work.

Exciting News – New Sandpit Constructed!

We are excited to share that our brand-new sandpit has been completed and will be available for students to enjoy under the shade sail on the oval from the beginning of Term 3.

The new sandpit will provide a fresh, engaging, and imaginative play space where children can explore, create, collaborate, and learn together. Opportunities for open-ended play such as this support creativity, problem-solving, and social development, while also providing a fun and inclusive space for students to enjoy during recess and lunchtime.

We look forward to seeing our students make the most of this wonderful new addition to our outdoor learning environment.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Simon Thorne, parent of Vincent in Year 1 and Director/Owner of Dream Making Landscapes, for his generous support and expertise in helping bring our new sandpit project to life.

Simon has kindly shared his time, knowledge, and vision to help create and build this exciting outdoor space that will be enjoyed by our students for many years to come. We are incredibly grateful for his contribution and ongoing support of our school community.

Building Update

Our building project is nearing completion, with handover expected to occur within the next few weeks. Over the holiday period, carpets and pinboards will be installed, marking the final stages of the fit-out.

We are also currently finalising the furniture and furnishings for the new building. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Emily Rolls (mother of Hannah in Prep), an Interior Designer, who has generously shared her expertise throughout this process. Emily has been instrumental in sourcing furniture and helping to design the new spaces, ensuring they are both functional and welcoming for staff, students, and families. Her support and professionalism have been greatly appreciated. For those interested in learning more about Emily's work, please visit Siren Design Group at https://sirendesigngroup.com/ or email her at emily.r@sirendesigngroup.com.

This is a very exciting time for our school community as we look forward to moving into the new administration building early in Term 3.

With the administration building almost complete, we will begin the second stage of the project, which includes the construction of a new basketball court and a range of landscaping improvements. During the school holidays, the PFA shed, sports shed, existing basketball court, and sandpit area will be demolished to make way for these exciting developments.

As the building site will change significantly, students will line up each morning near the flagpole area from the beginning of Term 3. Staff will be on hand on the first day back to assist students and ensure a smooth transition to the new arrangements.

The second stage of the project is expected to be completed by the beginning of October.

We thank our community for their ongoing patience, understanding, and support as we move closer to the completion of this exciting project and continue to enhance our learning environment for all students.

More information will be communicated early next term regarding Stage two of the project.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 20th @ 3:30pm.

Our annual School Fete will be held on Friday the 20th of November this year from 3.30pm to 8pm.

If you are new to the school and haven’t been a part of the SJV Fete - now is the time to get involved.  The SJV fete is famous in this area, has been running for over 50 years annually and is the most wonderful community event.

As a parent, you will get the chance to learn new skills, hone skills you have, make new friends and enhance the enjoyment of your own child’s school experience. There are many jobs in the lead up, on the day and the day after.  All families need to be involved to make this a successful event.

Please contact Nate Viviani with any questions Nathan.Viviani@inchcape.com, the office or send an email to me, principal@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au or put your name down in the school office to be a part of this great event.

Remember, it is our big fundraising event for the year and we encourage every family to be involved in some way.

Please refer to the PFA Fete Page for further details.

Reports

All families now have access to their child/s report digitally through our online portal (nForma). Should you have any questions about your child's report, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. If you have any issues accessing the report, please contact the office.

Reminders

The next Newsletter will be shared on Thursday 23rd of July

  • The next school assembly will be on Friday 17th of July @ 3pm in the MPR

  • Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools.  We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.

  • Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.

  • Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with Meditation, prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.

Wishing everyone the most wonderful holiday. We hope all who are able to take a break are able to recharge their batteries and return to us in Term 3 ready for another exciting term. Take care and stay safe these holidays. We look forward to being all together back at school on Monday 13th of July.

Regards
