Miss Justine Goonan

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been wonderful to welcome all of our students and staff back and into the 2026 school year, after a challenging holiday period for many in our school and local community.

Welcome to Sacred Heart School

We have welcomed 9 students into Foundation and three additional families with students in a variety of grade levels to the Sacred Heart School community. Through the committed work of our teachers and staff, our students have had a fantastic start to the school year, our classrooms are calm, our students are focussed and already doing great things.

Sacred Heart School events

Students have already enjoyed the school events of Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Opening Mass led by Ms Oliver and Fr John Paul. We have more school events planned for this term, including a community BBQ, an exciting upcoming excursion (we're still fine tuning the details) and visitors from Snowy Hydro for more engaging STEM workshops before we finish out the term celebrating the Easter story ahead of the holidays.

Details have also been shared with our parents and carers for our upcoming Parent-Teacher-Student meetings. These occur in Term One and Term Three each year, with reports provided in Term Two and Term Four. Our upcoming meetings are for our parents/carers, teachers and students to get together, learn from one another, get to know each other and set up the school year for success. We ask that families please book in via PAM (if unable to log in, please contact the office admin@shcorryong.catholic.edu.au) and let us know if you have any difficulties in doing so.

For our students who receive funding or additional support we will hold additional meetings that we call PSG s (Parent Support Group meetings) in Week 8 and onwards for goal setting.

Thank you to our families who were able to attend our recent morning tea and catch up after the fires with myself and Joe Quinn (our MHiPS - Mental Health in Primary Schools leader). It was a great opportunity to learn from our community, about how our families and students were affected from the recent fires and discuss possible support opportunities we can explore as our school. Some of the things we discussed included the impact to our families, whether that be from the fire itself or needing to evacuate, partnerships with emergency services and possible fundraising opportunities for those affected. We hope to share more with you soon on our actions, following this conversation.

We warmly welcome all in our Sacred Heart School community to our beginning of the year BBQ, please see below for details.

As a Sacred Heart School community, we keep the Yule, Nankervis and Wheeler families in our thoughts and prayers on the recent passing of Judy and Ruby. Judy was a past grandparent, volunteer at Sacred Heart School and a valued parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish and Ruby was a much-loved great grandparent. May they live on in the beautiful memories of their loved ones.

Loving God,

We lift up the memory of the one we hold so dear.

Thank You for the gift of their life,

for the love they shared, and the light they brought into our days.

Though our hearts ache in their absence,

we trust they now rest in peace,

free from pain, embraced by Your eternal love.

Grant us comfort in our grief,

strength to carry their legacy forward,

and hope in the promise that love never truly ends.

May their soul be at peace,

and may we find solace in knowing

that one day, we will meet again in Your presence.

Amen.

Justine
