KINDERGARTEN NEWS

We’re halfway through Term 3!  Where is the time going?  Kindergarten have had a fabulous term so far.  Here is some of the exciting learning we have been doing.

In Maths, we’ve been learning how to talk about where things are using positional language. We are getting good at telling left from right!  One of our favourite activities was guided drawing, where students followed simple instructions to position objects accurately on their paper.  This helped reinforce their understanding of terms like “above,” “below,” “next to,” and “between.”

We also played a game called Woomera or Miss.  Did you know a woomera is a special Aboriginal tool that helps throw a spear farther and more accurately?  This game involved working with a partner to work out where the Woomera’s were placed on their game board.

Making mazes was another highlight.  We paired up and helped each other through the mazes using the positional language we’ve been learning, lots of “go forward,” “turn left,” and “stop next to the circle!”

In our Integrated Unit, Time Travellers – Play, Learn and Belong, we’ve been exploring some wonderful books like Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge, Greetings from Sandy Beach, The Terrible Suitcase, and The Imagineer.  Through these stories, we’ve been learning about how life used to be different in the past. We discovered how holidays, transportation, and school life have changed over time.  Mrs Polson even brought in an old school case, and we talked about how different it is compared to the bags we use today.  Inspired by this, we had fun creating our own ‘Terribly Magnificent School Bags’!

In PE, we've been working on our basic movement skills.  So far, we've had a go at side-stepping, skipping, and practising our under-arm throw. These moves are great for helping everyone build confidence and get ready for more challenging activities and sports!

We can’t wait for more fun and exciting learning in Kindergarten!
