Week 6

Over the last week we have celebrated Science week and have immersed ourselves in Science.  Last week, twenty three students attended an overnight excursion at Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre to work with  Steve for a HPGE SciComm Camp during National Science Week! Students had an amazing time and grew their love of science even more!! 

Thalgarrah Camp Report

On Tuesday to Wednesday the Tree Troff, Future of Transport and some other selected students went on an overnight camp at Thalgarrah.  We had a professional Apple educator, Steve Papp, from Field of Mars in Sydney.  He taught us how to use apple and google apps on the ipads he brought such as, Seek, Procreate, iMovie Pages, Keynote and the multiwindow add on.

We learned what cinematography was, and made videos using photos, videos, text, and music to make a 30 second video encouraging people to go out in nature.  We videoed trees, bushes, and we learned different ways we could film our shots like panning, sliding and tilting.

On the second day, we made field guides of Thalgarrah.  These included a colour palette and a habitat tree we made using procreate and a Logitech crayon/digital pencil to draw our tree and decorate our front page and slides.  Obviously we also went outside to the front of Thalgarrah to take photos of species of animals, trees and other plants and fauna. We labelled our photos by using seek and others to help us identify the species we took photos of.

They were our overall main focuses for the camp but we also did activities like minute to win games and looking at the different animals Thalgarrah has to offer.

UNE Discovery visit

Today we had UNE Discovery visit and run a day full of Science alongside our year 6 students. Activities included Palaeontology puzzles, Pig Power towers, Creative Chemistry and Crime Scene investigations. We all thoroughly enjoyed the activities and are so proud of our year 6 leaders taking charge of their activities, showing their love of science. 

Attendance Matters!

We know that a day off here and there doesn’t seem like much but these absences can add up quickly and days lost can equal years lost. The more a child attends school the greater opportunity they will have to reach their potential.
