St Peter's students over the years have loved reading the Treehouse series by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton, starting with the "13 Storey Treehouse" and going up to "169 Storey Treehouse" selling more than 10 million copies in Australia and published in over 30 countries. Sadly, Terry Denton died recently leaving a legacy of wonderful drawings in many books. According to Andy Griffiths 'We never lost our amazement at Terry's ability to create a character whose aliveness you immediately believed in and for whom you felt a great affection'. Terry was said to have treated drawing as a form of thinking rather than just decoration. His big break came when "Felix and Alexander won the Children's Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the Year in 1986. For over 3 decades, Denton wrote and illustrated more than 30 books. He lived nearby in Mornington where he worked from a studio tucked away at the bottom of his garden, no doubt thinking about adding another storey to that incredible Treehouse. We hope that the students at St Peter's College can be inspired by people like Terry Denton and continue to find joy from his books.
