What’s happening in our French classrooms?

Our Year 7 French language students spent the last few weeks practising their role in the play “Les trois petits cochons”. A group of visitors during the school tour also had the unexpected pleasure of watching a full rehearsal! The students’ final performance took place last week and they all did very well, showcasing their excellent French pronunciation and acting skills! Bravo tout le monde!

Meanwhile, our Year 7 advanced students have been working on a different kind of oral presentation. They were given the task to research the life of schoolchildren in a country of their choice. They also had to research various aspects of the selected country (la géographie, le climat, l’école, etc.) and present their findings in the format of a GANAG lesson (Goal, Apply Prior Knowledge, New Information, Application, Goal Review) in French to the class. Here are two examples of slides presenting New information about Japan & United States. We learnt that it never snows in Tokyo, and that American people like to eat their pizza folded! Bravo pour ces excellentes présentations!

Our Year 8 French language students were recently assessed on their listening and reading skills on the topics of weather and sport. They have shown they can extract key information from brochures, maps and texts and have continued to improve their ability to answer questions in French sentences!

They are now launching on the topic of school with many interesting cultural questions to be answered. What time does school start and finish in France? What are the similarities between French and Australian schools? Most importantly, what do the French eat for their school lunches? How do you say the time in French?

Berthe Mouchette French Poetry Competition

This week, our Year 7,8,9 French Partial Immersion students participated in the annual Berthe Mouchette Poetry Competition organised by the Alliance française de Melbourne. Over the last 100 years, more than 1 million Victorian students have participated in this competition - a unique experience and wonderful opportunity to practise their French pronunciation! Good luck to all our students! This year, the 2024 BMC theme is theOlympic games / les Jeux Olympiques.

French Binational - Brevet des Collèges

The end of the French Binational journey is in sight for our 9F students who passed their official oral examination before a jury of two French teachers on a topic of their choice. The presentations were followed by an interview in French where students were asked to critically analyse and justify their investigation. L’épreuve orale is an integral part of the Brevet des collèges diploma. The Brevet des collèges written examinations will take place on 18th & 19th June 2024. Bonne chance à tous!

Paris Olympic Games 2024

In preparation for the Olympic Games taking place in Paris this year, students and teachers are now able to follow the journey of the Olympic Flame across France and French territories on a display in the student entrance. Between now and 27th July, which marks the opening of the Games, the Olympic Flame will move every day or so from one French city to another. In order to keep up with the movement, students and teachers will be able to find out:

where the flame is on the French map
what the host city is like (how many people live there? What can you visit and, most importantly, eat??)

Thank you to our Year 10 and 11 students for making informative posters on the various cities, and for all students who volunteer to be the official Auburn Carriers of the Flame!
