Garden

Shared Lunch

The whole school came together yesterday to celebrate the end of the term and our garden produce.

During the summer we picked our basil regularly and made heaps of delicious pesto.

While we ate lots of our produce raw, we turned the yellow and roma tomatoes into the pasta sauce.

On the menu was pesto pasta, tomato & carrot pasta and carrot cake. As always, we provide gluten, dairy and egg free meals.

It was a gorgeous sunny autumn afternoon and as you can see from the photos below, the children enjoyed the meal. Hands down, this is the most popular activity in our gardening program!

Carrot Cake

Rumour has it that Easter bunnies might be around during the holidays!

Not to risk losing all our carrots from the garden, they were harvested, washed, peeled and grated (luckily not by hand!).

We baked three delectable carrot cakes with cream cheese icing for all of us. The children loved it and were happy to share a few pieces with the staff.

Autumn Planting

As our summer veggies are slowly finishing, we are starting to plant the cool weather produce. First in were broccoli seedlings planted by Prep/One SO.

Herbs & Teas

We aren't only harvesting our veggies. Some herbs and teas like rosemary, thyme, sage and lemon verbena are great when dry.

We plan to sell some of those on our next Garden Market.

That is all for now. I wish you all a relaxing break and a Happy Easter!
