Learning News - Term 3, Weeks 1-2

This term in Religion, students have been learning about God’s Great Family and discovering that God loves us, keeps His promises and is always with us. We have explored the story of Abraham and Sarah, learning how they trusted God even when His promises took time to come true. Through stories, discussions, prayers and creative activities, students have been encouraged to recognise that they are a special part of God’s family and can trust in His love and care every day!

Religion – Reconciliation Unit

This term, our Religion unit focuses on the theme of Reconciliation. Students are exploring the Parable of the Prodigal Son, which teaches us about the unconditional love and forgiveness of God. Through this story, we are reflecting on the choices we make, how these impact our relationships, and the importance of saying "sorry."

We are also learning about the Sacrament of Penance, discovering how our Catholic community celebrates forgiveness and restoration. We have some students currently preparing to receive this sacrament on Wednesday, 12 August.

Year 4

We have started the wonderful unit on Mary, Mother of God in Year 4 this term and were fascinated to learn about just how many special titles Mary has!  We’ve continued our learning by starting to look at a special prayer called the Angelus.  This traditional prayer helps us to stop and remember the mystery of God taking a human nature, in the form of Jesus Christ, in the Incarnation. The name "Angelus" comes from the Latin word for "angel".  The ringing of the Angelus bell (often at 6 am, 12 pm, and 6 pm) is an invitation to pause, stop what we are doing, and pray.

We look forward to participating in this special prayer at St Michael’s.

In Term 2, our focus was centred around the Sacrament of Confirmation. With the continuing preparation and our students being dedicated to our learning, last Friday the 24th, our students had the special privilege of a little, meet and greet with Bishop Murphy. Bishop Murphy was thoroughly impressed by Stage 3’s deep knowledge and understanding of the Sacrament. On Friday evening, our candidates reverently participated in their Confirmation ceremony, proudly receiving the Holy Spirit and confirming their chosen saint names. As their teacher, I am proud of the effort in learning about and preparing for Confirmation by all Stage 3 students. 

We have just started our next unit, where we are learning to recongise significant women who have been faithful models for the church.
