Student Mobile Phones
We understand that students may bring a personal mobile phone to school, particularly if they are travelling independently to and from school. Please make yourself aware of the Department of Education policy regarding Mobile Phones. I’ve included some pertinent excerpts as well as a link to the full policy (click HERE).
At Parkdale Primary School:
Students who choose to bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours.
Exceptions to this policy may be applied if certain conditions are met.
When emergencies occur, parents or carers should reach their child by calling the school office.
When students bring a mobile phone to school, as a primary school we will provide secure storage in a different way to a secondary school who have personal student lockers. Secure storage is storage that cannot be readily accessed by those without permission to do so. At Parkdale Primary School students are required to hand their phones/devices into the school administration office.
We have spoken with our senior students about not using their phones when on school grounds at the start and end of the day.
The policy also includes Smart or Space talk watches and they are required to be switched to school mode during the hours of the school day.
