Indonesian Incursion Week 7

In week 7 - Monday the 24th to Wednesday the 26th of August, we will be welcoming Bayu, a talented Indonesian artist from the island of Java, to NPS for some very special cultural lessons. This wonderful opportunity has been made possible through an Australian Indonesian Institute grant, facilitated by Helena Anggraeni from Dromana College.

Throughout the week, Bayu will work alongside Ibu Jones, sharing his culture and talents with every class. Students will learn what daily life is like in Indonesia and enjoy a range of hands-on experiences, including:

  • Indonesian storytelling
  • Traditional Indonesian games
  • Indonesian dance workshop

We can't wait to share this exciting cultural experience with our students and celebrate the rich traditions, stories, music, art and food of Indonesia!

Father's Day Breakfast - Friday 4th September

Please save the date for our Father's Day breakfast. Students are invited to bring along a dad, uncle, grandfather or special adult for an egg and bacon lunch. A coffee van will also be available to help kick start the day!

A message to our community from Barwon Health Buruli ulcer is spreading.

Gallery Image

Buruli ulcer is on the rise across Victoria - now reaching Melbourne, the Surf Coast and Greater Geelong. Last year was the highest on record for our region.

It often starts as a painless lump that looks like a bite but can become a serious ulcer if not treated early. Transmission likely involves mosquitoes and possums, and infections can occur year-round.

Reduce your risk:

🧤 Cover up outdoors

🦟 Use DEET or picaridin repellent

🩹 Cover cuts + clean wounds quickly

💧 Remove standing water

🪟 Maintain insect screens

🌅 Avoid mozzie-heavy times (dawn/dusk)

⚕️ Get unusual skin lesions checked

🐾 Don’t handle sick or dead possums

Early action makes a difference. If you have a wound that won’t heal, see your GP and ask if it could be a Buruli ulcer.

Celebrating our wonderful students both in and out of school!

We just love seeing our students shine, both at school and outside of school.

Has your child had an amazing achievement or experience recently? If so, we would love to showcase it via our newsletter. If you think there is something that you would like to share within our fortnightly newsletter, please send an email with full details and accompanying photos through to newtown.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

2027 Fundraising Focus

As we do every year, we tag our fundraising efforts to a major area of the school and seek to improve one overall key aspect. In the past, previous fundraising efforts have gone to revitalising the library space, contributed to new asphalt works and line marking, purchased new outdoor furniture, and more! Although we have our own ideas, we are keen to hear from our families as to what you think we might be able to improve, upgrade, or replenish! Please use our 'always on feedback' portal (linked below) to share your ideas! Thank you.
