What a brilliant couple of weeks we have had at Mitcham Primary School!

Before anything else, I would like to say a very big thank you to all of our wonderful students, families and staff who made Primary Principal’s Day last Friday so memorable for Bron and I. We were completely spoiled and felt very loved and appreciated throughout the day. We particularly loved the fabulous “touch of pink” that students, staff and even some parents proudly wore! We are seriously considering how we might make pink a permanent feature of our school uniform… although perhaps that might be a battle for another day! 😉 Thank you for making the day so special, it was a wonderful reminder of what makes our Mitcham community so great.

Last week’s Grade 3/4 Camp was a fabulous success, with our students embracing every opportunity for fun, adventure and learning. Filled with new experiences and challenges, laughter and time spent with friends, it was fantastic to see our students stepping outside their comfort zones and making memories together. A huge thank you to the incredible staff who attended the camp and gave so generously of their time, energy and care, and to the parents who joined us and supported our students throughout the experience. Camps simply could not happen without the commitment of our wonderful staff and families, and we are very grateful.

Thursday night’s Disco was another fabulous Mitcham community event! The students looked absolutely fantastic in their snazzy outfits and certainly brought their best dance moves to the dance floor. There was plenty of energy, laughter and fun. A very special thank you to our fundraising heroes, Leah, Renee and Kara, whose incredible organisation and hard work made the evening possible. Thank you also to all of the parents who volunteered their time to help on the night and to our wonderful staff who came along to support the event. We are so fortunate to have such a generous and enthusiastic school community.

Next week is Bullying No Way Week, an important opportunity for our students to think about the impact that our words and actions can have on others. Thank you to our Wellbeing Coordinator, Laura Ellis, and our teachers for preparing a range of activities for students across the week. We will be encouraging our children to remain mindful that sometimes it is the small acts of kindness, inclusion and respect, as well as the small words we choose to use, that can have a very big impact on someone else’s day.

Next week also marks an important milestone for Mitcham Primary School, as we commence our Whole School Review. Every Victorian government school undertakes a review every four years. The review provides an opportunity for us to reflect on our school’s performance, celebrate our strengths and achievements, consider the impact of our improvement work and identify the priorities that will guide our future planning and improvement. Key days for our review will be Wednesday 19 August and Wednesday 26 August. I look forward to sharing the outcomes of the review with our community once we receive the final report. I have enormous confidence in our school and am incredibly proud of the wonderful growth, progress and achievement we have experienced at Mitcham Primary School over recent years. This review provides us with a valuable opportunity to celebrate that growth while also thinking carefully about where we can continue to improve.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CARERS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026. The survey link and access code will be distributed on Monday.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / carers who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language. Please feel free to contact the office if you would like more information.

Finally, we are very excited to welcome our 2027 Prep students and their families to their first Transition Session next Friday 21 August at 9.00am. We are looking forward to beginning this very special journey with our newest Mitcham students as they start to become familiar with our school, their teachers and their new friends.
