Uppers ~ 5/6 News ~

Transition Day was filled with excitement, smiles, and plenty of new friendships as our 2026 Year 6 Leaders met their new Foundation buddies for next year. This is always a special moment in the life of our school, a chance for our oldest students to step into leadership, and for our newest students to feel welcomed, supported, and safe.

Our soon-to-be Year 6s showed wonderful kindness and care as they guided their little buddies. It was beautiful to see them take on their roles with confidence and pride.

We were also delighted to welcome new families and new friends who will be joining St Mel’s in 2026. Transition Day helps them become familiar with our school environment and begin forming connections that will carry them into a joyful start next year.

Seeing our students shine as leaders, role models, and companions reminds us of the strong sense of community we share here at St Mel’s. We look forward to watching these buddy relationships grow throughout 2026.

This week, our Year 6 students celebrated their Graduation, marking the end of their primary school journey with pride, creativity, and a touch of St Mel’s magic.

In the lead-up to their special day, each student created a life-size cut-out of themselves, designed to reflect their unique gifts, talents, and dreams. Our Church quickly filled with artists, singers, writers, cricketers, basketballers, dancers, designers, future teachers, engineers, lawyers, and everything in between. Each figure was a celebration of who they are now and who they hope to become.

The cut-outs sat near the students during the Graduation Mass, a beautiful reminder of the individuality and character each child brings to our community.

Then today, with the school year drawing to a close, our graduates gathered up their life-size creations to take them home. As they walked through the school gates, backpacks on, cut-outs in hand many of us had to do a double-take. For a moment it looked as though twice as many Year 6s were leaving St Mel’s!

It was a joyful, heartwarming moment that captured the spirit of this graduating class: bright, hopeful, full of personality, and ready for the next step.

We congratulate our Year 6 students and their families. May they continue to grow, shine, and live out the gifts that God has placed within them.

Our Annual Grade 6 Profiles!

As part of our cherished school tradition, we are excited to present the Grade 6 Profiles, a special rite of passage for our senior students as they prepare to graduate. Each year, our Year 6 students reflect on their journey through primary school, sharing personal insights, memories, and their hopes for the future.

In each newsletter from now until the end of the year, we will feature these profiles, offering a glimpse into the experiences and dreams of our future leaders. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their growth, resilience, and the bright futures ahead of them.

Stay tuned to hear their stories and be inspired by the incredible journeys they’ve taken during their time at our school!
