Science

Over the past two weeks, Year 3/4 students have been exploring habitats and the differences between living, once-living and never-living things. Students began by observing the school grounds and identifying features of different habitats. They then put their scientific thinking and teamwork to the test in an interactive nature reserve escape room, solving clues and using evidence to classify objects. Next week is the Aussie Bird Count, and we encourage families to get involved at home by spending 20 minutes observing and counting the birds in their garden or local area. It's a wonderful opportunity to contribute to citizen science!

Year 5/6

Students have begun Term 4 exploring the fascinating world of chemistry, with a focus on acids, alkalis and pH. In their first lesson, students used litmus paper to test a range of everyday substances, observing colour changes and classifying them as acidic, neutral or alkaline. This week, students investigated how natural materials can be used as chemical indicators by making their own red cabbage indicator solution. Next week, they will put their homemade indicator to the test, exploring how it changes colour when mixed with different liquids. Throughout these investigations, students are developing their skills in predicting, observing and recording results.
