A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the final Newsletter for Term 1 2025. As we reach the end of the Term, I am delighted to share with you the news, events, and updates from the past two weeks.

Last week, the Year 6 students participated in a three-day camp, which was an excellent opportunity for them to develop resilience and forge stronger bonds with their peers. Then on Monday this week, they represented the College at the Inter-School Cricket Carnival. It was a wonderful day as they completed with great determination and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Earlier this week, the Year 11 students visited various religious places of worship to learn about the rituals and practices of their faith. It was an enriching experience, and our students were respectful and their behaviour exemplary.

To commemorate the start of Holy Week, our Year 2 students and a group of Secondary students led our College community in a Stations of the Cross Liturgy today. It was a powerful way for our College community to enter into Holy Week and connect as a community.

ANZAC Day

When we return from the Term One holidays, the College will commemorate ANZAC Day on Wednesday, 30 April.

The College community are invited to join our staff and students for the ANZAC Day Liturgy at 11:10am for students in Year 1 to Year 11, followed by an ANZAC Day Liturgy of the Word at 2pm for Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students.

Students affiliated with organisations such as Brownies, Scouts, and Australian Naval Cadets, are also invited to wear their club uniforms with pride, showcasing their dedication and commitment. This day serves as a meaningful opportunity to honour the spirit of the ANZACs and reflect on their enduring legacy.

Federal Election

The next Federal Election will be held on Saturday 3 May, and it is important to consider how your vote will impact your child’s education. The National Catholic Education Commission has prepared several resources for parents to consider ahead of the election including a two-page parent Priorities document. You can find out more information about their priorities by visiting the school funding explainer webpage and dispelling the myths page.

Staffing Movements

As you will be aware, the announcement was recently made that Ms Giovanna Fiume will be joining the College as the new Principal at the beginning of Term 3. Giovanna is a dedicated and faith-filled Catholic leader with extensive experience in managing and leading a large co-educational Catholic College and will be a great asset to the school. I look forward to working closely with Giovanna throughout Term 2 to ensure a smooth handover and to share with her the insights I have gained while having the privilege to lead this college community during my time here.

As we look ahead to Term Two, due to some staff being on leave, there are some staffing changes I would like to bring to your attention:

  • During Weeks 1 and 2, I will be taking Long Service Leave to visit family in the UK. During my absence Jason Meynell will be Acting Principal.

  • Jason will take on the newly created role of Director of Staffing and Operations for Terms 2 to 4. His experience and leadership will be invaluable in executing this Senior Leadership role across K-11.

  • Jonathan Hunt will assume the Head of Senior School for Terms 2 to 4.

  • Katrina York will serve as Learning Area Coordinator (English) for Terms 2 to 4.

  • Brendan McGrath is on long service leave (LSL) during Term Two. We wish him a restful and enjoyable break.

  • Christy Thomas is Head of Middle School during Term 2.

  • Fiona Slater will serve as Learning Area Coordinator (Science) in Term 2.

  • Samantha Oliphant joins us as College Receptionist, while Caitlin Hamilton is on parental leave.

As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to wish you all a Blessed and Holy Easter spent with family and friends.
