It has been an exciting start to 2026 for Music at the College. The College Ensembles continue to strengthen, and we are receiving more requests for private Music lessons. The Grade 5 Band also received their instruments this week and are already busy learning the first notes on their instruments.
St Virgil's College offers private Music Tuition for the following instruments:
Flute
Clarinet
Saxophone
Trumpet
French Horn
Trombone
Guitar - Acoustic and Electric
Electric Bass
Drums
Piano
Please note that private lessons are only available for Piano for students from Prep to Grade 2. Please contact our Music Administration Assistant, Mr Jamie Pregnell (jpregnell@stvirgils.tas.edu.au), for further information regarding private lessons.
Rehearsals
Grade 5 and Grade 6 Bands rehearse at the Junior School on Mondays. Please ensure that your son brings his instrument and Practise Sheet to school on Mondays.
The Junior Rock Band rehearses at the Senior School on Thursdays at Recess. This group is for students who can already play a rock band instrument (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard). Year 7 students are welcome to join.
Senior Stage Band
The Senior Stage Band has been re-named as 'St Virgil's College Southern Aurora'. This name not only references Aurora Australis which is often spectacularly viewed in Tasmania, but also honours Saint Virgil who was an astronomer. Southern Aurora rehearses on Thursday afternoons from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. This is an advanced group for students who have achieved a high level of proficiency on their instrument and are confident with reading music. Instruments in this group include saxophone, trumpet, trombone, electric guitar, electric bass, drums and keyboard.
I look forward to bringing further musical opportunities and experiences to our students this year.
