Project Compassion is a special annual campaign run by Caritas Australia during the six weeks of Lent. It is a time when schools, families and parishes across Australia come together to raise funds to support people in need around the world. This year’s theme is “Unite Against Poverty.”
In class, students explore the stories of people who face challenges within their communities. Through these stories, they learn how the support provided by Caritas Australia helps transform lives by providing access to clean water, education, healthcare and new opportunities for communities experiencing poverty and injustice.
Throughout Lent, our school hosts a series of Friday FUNdraiser events that reinforce the students’ learning while raising funds for Project Compassion. Students are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation for each event.
Our first FUNdraiser was the Water Bucket Challenge, organised by the Prep and Year 5/6 students. This activity highlighted the story of Sisilia from Tanzania and the challenges many communities face when collecting water. Students worked in their House colour teams to carefully pass small buckets of water along a line and empty them into a larger bucket, aiming to minimise spills along the way. Congratulations to the Year 1/2 students, who were the most successful with the least spillage!

The Year 3/4 students have organised a “Decorate a Bee” activity, inspired by the story of Monoranjan from Bangladesh, who has established beehives to collect honey and support his community.
The Year 1/2 students have planned a “Hope Flower” activity, reflecting the story of Manaini from Fiji, whose work has helped create growth and new opportunities within her community.
Our Social Justice and Wellbeing Leaders are also planning additional activities to help raise much needed funds.
Please encourage your child to bring a gold coin, thank you!
Please remember the students participating in their First Reconciliation next week in our church.

For disarmament and peace
Let us pray that
nations move toward effective disarmament, particularly nuclear disarmament, and that world leaders choose the path of dialogue and diplomacy instead of violence.
