Religious Education News

Our 1st Term is very quickly coming to a close as we enter into Holy Week in the last week of school and Easter on the first weekend of the holidays.
Thank you to all who came to support our students at the Beginning of Year Mass. This was such a prayerful and reverent celebration with the Preps and their Grade 6 buddies of course being the highlight, participating in their blessing ritual so seriously and respectfully.
Last week, the Grade 6s led us in a beautiful Prayer Gathering focusing on Leadership and our school leaders were celebrated and given their badges. It was a great reminder of how, even though there are some who have natural talent for leadership positions, we can all be positive leaders in our school through our words and actions.
In previous years, our Holy Week activities have involved whole school sessions and have been run in family groups. This year we have decided on a bit of a different format due to the short last week of school which includes the School Sports on the last day of school. On Friday the 27th of March (Week 9), the Grade 4 students will be leading us in learning about Palm Sunday for their Prayer Gathering. On the following Monday in week 10 (the 30th of March), year level groups will participate in a teacher guided Holy Thursday liturgy/reflection and on the next day (Tuesday the 31st of March), there will be a similar set up to commemorate Good Friday with the Stations of the Cross on the courts. Students will also be learning about Holy Week in their classrooms and reflecting on how these stories and events have impacted and continue to influence our lives and the world today. When we return in Term 2, we will participate in a whole school Alleluia Day to celebrate the blessings of a new Easter season (Hopefully the Easter Bunny has been too!).
In that same week, on Wednesday the 1st of April, we will have the Social Justice team lead us in our Project Compassion coin line where students are asked to bring a gold coin donation to wear casual clothes for the day and there will be Fun Food on this day also. If all Project Compassion boxes/money from home could be brought in prior to this day that would be fantastic so that Kathryn can total our contribution and we can send our donation to Caritas. Thank you all for your continued support of this important campaign.
There have been some swaps for Term 2 Prayer Gathering dates which will happen from time to time due to unforeseen circumstances, so note those change down if you need to (They are highlighted in bold).
