Book Week

What a fantastic Book Week we celebrated together as a whole school community last week. It was wonderful to see the incredible support from our parents, teachers and students as we embraced this year's theme, "Symphony of Stories."

A beautiful, crisp Monday morning provided the perfect backdrop to start book week with our annual parade. It was wonderful to see our school community come together to celebrate the joy of reading, with students and staff proudly showcasing an amazing array of book-inspired costumes. From Harry Potters, a class of colourful crayons, Thing 1s and Thing 2s, and Wallys to princesses and countless other beloved characters, every costume reflected the creativity and imagination that books inspire. A special thank you to our School Captains, who did a fantastic job leading the parade and helping our celebration run so smoothly.

Our second exciting book week activity was a visit from an author named Jodie Fitzsimons. We learnt about how to write our own narrative that has lots of detail in it. It was fun to learn about all the ways to write an interesting story. We wrote all of our ideas in our English books. She showed all of us the books that she wrote and how she got ideas to write them. She told us that she normally gets her ideas from real life. We had so much fun listening to her amazing tips on how to write a child’s book.Addie N and Blair G

We are incredibly grateful to Jodie for generously donating several copies of her books, which will soon be available for students to enjoy in our school library.

Students also had great fun taking part in our Where's Wally? hunt throughout the day on Wednesday.  Wally was cleverly hidden in different locations around the school, and students eagerly searched for him each day. The challenge brought plenty of excitement and smiles as everyone kept their eyes peeled for his famous red-and-white stripes.

One of the highlights of Book Week was our Teddy Bears' Picnic, where our youngest and oldest students came together to celebrate the joy of reading. With teddy bears in tow, students enjoyed sharing books, reading together and spending time with their buddies. It was wonderful to see the older students nurturing a love of reading while creating special memories with our Foundation students.

The teddy bears picnic was fun because ……

‘I had fun with my buddy.’ - Hazel

‘We got to read our books with our buddies.’ - Lola

‘I brought my favourite book.’ - Frankie

‘I read a lot of books with my buddy.’ - Myles

We finished the week with our Literacy Learning Expo, where parents and carers were welcomed into classrooms to celebrate the wonderful learning that has taken place throughout the term. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to proudly share their work and explain what they have been learning.  The excitement and buzz around the school was a wonderful reflection of the pride our students have in their learning. Thank you to all of the families who joined us and helped make the afternoon such a success.
