What We’ve Been Learning in Prep! 🌟

It has been a busy and exciting few weeks in Prep! We have been learning, exploring and having lots of fun along the way. 

Maths 

We have been learning that division means sharing equally. Our learning has been very hands-on! We had lots of fun practicing how to share different amounts of popcorn, including 10, 8 and even 22 pieces, between two groups. We learnt the strategy of giving one to one group, one to the other group and continuing until they are all gone, before counting how many are in each group.

We even had the very important job of decorating a cookie using a small packet of M&Ms and sharing them equally between ourselves and a friend! 🍪😋

Phonological Awareness 

We have now completed our teaching of all the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they most commonly make. We have been so impressed with how much everyone has learnt! We are now moving on to learning about digraphs. A digraph is when two letters work together to make one sound, such as sh, ch and th. We will also be revisiting and strengthening our knowledge of the vowel sounds a, e, i, o and u. 🌟

Writing 

In writing, we have begun exploring adjectives, which are describing words. We are learning how adding just one adjective can give our sentences extra information. For example, instead of saying “The cat is playing with the toy,” we can say “The black cat is playing with the toy.” ✏️

Respectful Relationships

We have been exploring how activities, colours, jobs, sports and toys are for everyone. It doesn't matter whether you are a boy or a girl, we can all enjoy the same things! We then used our imaginations to draw some wonderful pictures of what we would like to be when we grow up. We loved seeing the many different dreams and ideas our Preps shared! 👩‍🚒👨‍⚕️👩‍🚀⚽️🎨
