Stage 3 students from Glen Innes Public School visited our school on Thursday for Education Week and put their farming skills to the test in the Ag Challenge.

Mr Miller, Ms Smith and their Ag team, did an amazing job planning and organising a sensational series of activities that inspired laughter, teamwork, and resilience.

Glen Innes High School’s Comic-Con: A Creative Tradition Sparking Student Engagement and Success

Since its establishment in 2018, Glen Innes High School’s Comic-Con has become a vibrant annual tradition designed to combat student disengagement, particularly in literacy and persuasive language skills. This innovative event aligns closely with the school’s ongoing ‘Bump It Up’ strategy aimed at improving NAPLAN results by providing authentic and dynamic learning experiences.

Comic-Con offers students a unique platform to showcase their understanding of persuasive language techniques while building confidence in public speaking. Participants, working either individually or in small groups, create captivating displays in the school gym that celebrate their chosen heroic heroes or villainous villains. These creative exhibitions employ a wide range of mediums and are carefully crafted to highlight their character’s qualities, attributes, and personality.

The core challenge is for students to persuade their audience that their chosen character is the ultimate “best in show.” Through this engaging process, students not only practice essential language skills but also enhance their creativity, teamwork, and self-assurance.

The event concludes with a special awards ceremony recognising outstanding efforts, creativity, and collaboration. These accolades celebrate the hard work and imaginative spirit of all participants, reinforcing a positive culture of learning and achievement.

Glen Innes High School’s Comic-Con continues to inspire students to connect academic skills with their interests passionately and authentically helping to elevate literacy outcomes and empower confident communicators for the future.

Chess Tournament

On Thursday, GIHS welcomed students from surrounding schools to participate in a Chess Tournament.

This inspiring event brought together primary and high school students to collaborate and learn in a supportive environment, fostering mentorship and teaching chess skills at all levels.

Students had the opportunity to challenge themselves, enhance their strategic thinking, and grow their abilities through guided play and expert coaching.
