Principal's Report

The past few weeks at Glen Innes High School have been filled with energy, creativity, and achievement as we joined together to celebrate the value of public education and inspire excellence in our school community. Education Week was a wonderful opportunity to highlight the diverse talents and learning experiences that make our school unique. Year 7 continued the much-loved tradition of Comic-Con, where students brought their favourite heroes and dynamic villains to life. Using persuasive language and creative flair, they showcased both their understanding and their confidence, creating an engaging and memorable event for staff and peers alike.

One of the highlights was the Agriculture Challenge, which saw Stage 3 primary students collaborate and compete alongside our High School students. This event not only tested their agricultural skills, but also fostered teamwork, problem-solving, and a real sense of connection between younger and older students. We are so proud of the enthusiasm and dedication shown by all participants.

Our Chess tournament was a display of sharp minds and friendly rivalry, with primary and high school students from different backgrounds coming together to demonstrate their skills and passion for the game. The response was so positive that we look forward to expanding this event region-wide, ensuring students have even more opportunities to challenge themselves and grow.

In the Art and TAS showcase, our school was lit up with remarkable artworks and impressive projects. From intricate design pieces to expressive paintings and practical creations, students truly rose to the occasion. Their commitment, talent, and imagination were clear for all to see, and we continue to be inspired by the quality and diversity of their work.

With all this excitement, we also want to acknowledge our Year 12 students, who are currently undertaking their Trial HSC exams. We wish every student the very best as they approach the finish line. While the end is in sight, now is the time to stay committed and keep working hard. It’s natural to feel tired, but remember, perseverance in these final stages can make all the difference. As always, our staff are here to support all Year 12s, ensuring you have access to guidance and resources as you navigate the HSC.

We’ve also had the privilege of welcoming our two High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) tutors for a two-day visit. They have been working closely with our HPGE Extension class teachers, refining our planning and curriculum to better support students with high potential and giftedness. This partnership is helping us to create more tailored and enriching learning experiences for all students in these programs.

Looking forward, we have an exciting opportunity for our school community. On the 16th of September, Sue Larkey, a renowned specialist in supporting families with neurodivergent students, will be visiting Glen Innes. She will run a special parent session from 6–8pm, hosted at GIPS. This free event will be an invaluable chance for

families to learn more about neurodiversity and how best to support their children. We encourage everyone to register at GIPS to ensure your place.
