CPS Sport Update
CPS Athletics Carnival Ribbon Ceremony
Well done to all our Grade 3–6 students who participated in the House Athletics Carnival at Sandringham Athletics Track. It was fantastic to see our students getting involved, showing great sportsmanship and giving their best across the day.
A special congratulations to all the students who placed 1st–4th and received ribbons. We recently held a special ribbon ceremony to celebrate and recognise these wonderful achievements. Well done to everyone!
District Athletics 2026
On Wednesday, August 12th, 40 students proudly represented our school at the District Athletics Carnival at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve.
Our students competed with utmost pride, respect and determination, representing our school brilliantly throughout the day. They should all be incredibly proud of their efforts, sportsmanship and the way they supported one another. Well done to everyone who competed!
Breaking Records!
A huge congratulations to Meina W and Ada W, who both made history by breaking Southport District Athletics records! Meina W set a new record in the 12/13 Girls Discus with an outstanding throw of 19.51m, while Ada W broke the 12/13 Girls High Jump record with an impressive jump of 1.33m. What an incredible achievement by both athletes! Well done, girls!
Division Athletics Qualifiers

GESAC Swimming Program
Well done to our students who have completed their two-week intensive swimming program at GESAC. It has been wonderful to see students developing their swimming skills, becoming more confident in the water and enjoying the opportunity to swim alongside their friends. A huge thank you to our wonderful staff and parent helpers for ensuring the program ran smoothly.
Here’s what some of our students had to say about the program:
Maya: “Yes, I really like the swimming program. I like it because it’s active and I am getting stronger in swimming. My teacher said I can level up and I think it’s because I started the swimming program. I am feeling much more confident in the water.”
Hina: “I feel like it’s really fun because I get to swim with my friends. I feel like I’m getting faster. When I was younger I used to be scared of the water, but now I’m not because of GESAC.”
Harriet B: “I like the program because it’s so good. We get an opportunity to go in the water with our friends. You can get better at swimming and more confident in the water. My favourite part of the program is diving into the 50m pool. My diving is getting better slowly.”
A huge congratulations to all our students for their effort, enthusiasm and progress throughout the program!
National Science Week at CPS
Next week, CPS will celebrate National Science Week with this year’s theme, Seeds of Science: nurturing science for all.
A key part of our celebration will be Science Brain Break quizzes for students across the school. Teachers will use a few questions at a time during snack and/or lunchtime to spark curiosity, discussion and some surprising science thinking. The quizzes are designed to encourage students to make a guess, explain their ideas and talk about science in a fun and informal way.
The following week is Children’s Book Week, and the science connection will continue with a visit from Steve Mushin, an industrial designer, illustrator and STEM author whose work brings together science, creativity, design and sustainability.
Families can also join in at home with an extra family science quiz based on secondary-level science knowledge. Some questions may be challenging, but they are a great opportunity to guess, discuss and discover the answers together.

Young Sound Engineers in STEM
In recent STEM lessons, our Year 1/2 students had a fantastic time completing their Sound unit by becoming creative instrument designers! They used their knowledge of vibrations, pitch and volume to design, build and test their own musical instruments, including guitars, drums, shakers and panpipes. Students proudly explained how their instruments made sound and showed how they could change the volume or pitch. It was wonderful to see so much creativity, problem-solving and excitement as our young sound engineers celebrated their learning!
