Week 5 -Sunday's Gospel Reading - Mt 22:34-40
It is hard to believe that we are almost half way through the final school term for the Year 2023. Our gospel last Sunday reminded me about what our students are learning through our RE and Inquiry unit this term, which has been designed around the content area of Civics and Citizenship. Our students have been unpacking and discovering the laws which are governing our country both federal, state and local. Our students are developing an understanding of Democracy and how our laws are enacted and reinforced. Our Year 5 and 6 students have started making comparisons with The Old Testament commandments which were the laws before the times of Jesus with the laws in the New Testament. The complexity behind our world's political laws can create many perspectives from different people, but it always comes back to caring for the common good and human dignity. Jesus said, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: you must love your neighbour as yourself. Such a clear and precise commandment, but one that needs constant revisiting for all of us.
