1 Green is ready for Book Week!

At Chapel today, 1 Green highlighted many of the books they have studied so far this year. From The Gruffalo to I’m Australian Too, students presented a wonderful range of stories and shared why books can capture the imagination of even the pickiest reader.

They concluded their presentation with the song Why Won’t You Open a Book?*, challenging the school community to stop scrolling, start turning pages and discover where a good book can take you!

Book Week is next week! Please see below all the information you need to know:

Book Parade - Thursday 27th August, 9.15am-10.45am in the School Gym

Students are asked to come dressed as a favourite book character of their choice for the parade. It’s always a fun event and children’s costumes are wildly impressive.

There will be a prize awarded for the best costume in each class, and as a reminder, the prize is awarded based on originality and effort. Could we also ask that, as your child will be in costume all day, care is given to their comfort and safety.

Book Fair - Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th August

Each class will visit the Book Fair in the Library early in the week to have a sneak peek and make a ‘wish list’. The wish list will be sent home for them to discuss with you. Please be assured that it is made clear to our children that the wish list is not a guarantee that they will get everything and they should ask their parents if they can have one or two items.

There are a number of ways books may be purchased:

1. If you wish, you can prepay for the items selected using the form on the back of the wish list. Please make sure you cross off any items you are not purchasing and write the receipt number on the form. Your child brings it to school and gives it to their teacher and the order will be filled and ready to be picked up in the afternoon. Make sure that you mark it clearly as “GIFT” if you don’t want your child to know about it!

2. The Book Fair will be open before and after school for parents. Mrs Auckett will be in the library from 8:15am to 9:00am and from 3:15pm to 3:45pm to help any parents who wish to make their own selections from the fair. Purchases can be made either in cash or card.

3. Your child may bring cash with them to make their choice on the day. Usually we receive no more than two copies of most books. If the item you want is sold out, we can order it from Scholastic. In previous years, the items usually come within a week of the order being made.

Please be aware that these books are provided by Scholastic Australia and not all the books reflect our Christian ethos. Whilst Mrs Auckett does try to put aside any she identifies as not a good fit for our school some may slip through. If your child purchases a book which you feel is a problem please let her know and the purchase will be refunded.

We are looking forward to a day of fun as we celebrate our love of all things to do with reading and thank you for your ongoing support.

For any questions, please email Mrs Auckett: d.auckett@hpcs.nsw.edu.au
