Principal's Update

Mr Brett Van Berkel

Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we move through the final weeks of Semester One, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the many opportunities, achievements, and connections that continue to shape our Catholic College Sale community.

A highlight this week was our Year 7 Parent Evening, which welcomed families to the College. We deeply value the opportunity to come together, share a meal, and discuss your child’s learning journey. A special thank you to Mr Nathan Smith and our team for preparing such an outstanding meal from the Marian Kitchen; it was a terrific showcase of skill and hospitality.

The evening itself was a great success. Parents heard about the strong start our Year 7 students have made, particularly in learning, wellbeing, and cyber safety. Importantly, we also provided practical guidance for families on how to support their children in this area. In addition, we shared important information about our new reporting processes, with reports becoming available this Friday.

I would like to sincerely thank all parents who attended, as well as our dedicated staff who supported the evening. In particular, I acknowledge Ms Cathy Sanderman, our Year 7 Transition Leader, whose leadership and organisation ensured the evening was a positive and worthwhile experience.

Looking ahead, I encourage families to mark our Catholic College Sale Pathways Expo on Thursday 23 July in their calendars. This is an important event for students entering Years 9–12 in 2027 and their families. The Expo offers a valuable opportunity to explore future study and career pathways, connect with industry representatives, tertiary providers, and employers, and seek guidance from our Learning Area Leaders and teachers. It is always a highly informative evening and an important step in helping our students make thoughtful, informed decisions about their future.

We also take great pride in celebrating our students' outstanding achievements. Congratulations to Year 11 students Oliver Skeels and Hudson Doherty, who have been awarded Charlie McCallum Scholarships. This prestigious opportunity will see them trek the Kokoda Trail, deepening their understanding of its historical significance and the sacrifices made by Australian servicemen and women.

Oliver and Hudson depart during the upcoming holidays, and we wish them safe travels as they embark on what will no doubt be a life-changing experience. We look forward to hearing about their journey on their return.

As we approach the mid-year holiday period, it is an appropriate time to pause and reflect. Semester One has brought both challenges and many moments of celebration. Throughout it all, the strength of our community has been evident. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of our parents and the wider community, it is a privilege to work in partnership with you.

As I shared with parents at the Year 7 evening, thank you for your continued support and for entrusting us with your child’s education. This is a responsibility and privilege we never take for granted.

I wish all families a safe and restful holiday break. Take the time to reconnect, recharge, and enjoy time together.

Take care and God bless,

Brett Van Berkel
