Assistant Principals' Report

Soccer Goals
This week, we were excited to have brand-new soccer goals installed on the Oval. Our Primary Years students could hardly contain their excitement, with cheers echoing from classrooms as the goals were being set up.
Staff had already noticed an increase in soccer games on the Oval, reflecting strong student interest. Through student voice, many students have been requesting goals to support their games, and it has been wonderful to see this feedback turn into reality.
Similar to our Gaga Pits, the goals will be rostered to different year levels throughout the school week to ensure all students have the opportunity to enjoy them. We are also exploring the purchase of an additional set of goals for the Prep to Year 2 area of the Oval.
We are thrilled to see students making the most of these new facilities, and we look forward to watching their skills, teamwork, and enjoyment.
National Science Week 2026
The school theme for National Science Week in 2026 is Seeds of Science: nurturing science for all. This theme invites students across Australia to explore the power of curiosity, inquiry and shared learning in growing scientific understanding. Just as seeds need the right conditions to grow, knowledge flourishes when it is nurtured, shared and applied to real-world and authentic challenges across all the scientific disciplines.
This week students had the opportunity to participate in some Science activities at lunchtime, as well as Science Week being acknowledged at our Year level assemblies. A big thank you to Ms Ash Finnin, who has led the Science Week activities in the Primary Years and all the teachers who were involved.
Bullying No Way: Small Acts for a Big Impact
This week, Chang House has been proud to support Bullying No Way: National Week of Action, with a focus on the 2026 theme, “Small Acts for a Big Impact.” Across the Primary Years, students have been learning that bullying is never okay and that everyone has a role to play in creating a safe, inclusive and respectful environment where all students feel valued, supported and able to belong.
Throughout the week, students have had opportunities to participate in positive activities that encourage kindness and connection. At lunchtime, students had the opportunity to create chains featuring positive words and messages to encourage and support others. These small acts of kindness are helping students recognise that their words and actions can make a meaningful difference to someone else’s day.
During Personal Enrichment Sessions, students have been exploring what bullying is, how it can affect others and what they can do when they experience or witness difficult situations. Through age-appropriate learning and activities, students have been encouraged to speak up, seek help, include others and use positive strategies to respond to challenging situations. The message has been clear: small acts of kindness, courage and support can have a big impact.
We have also been fortunate to participate in Kids Helpline’s anti-bullying livestreams, with sessions tailored for Prep–Year 2 and Years 3–6. Students explored strategies for dealing with bullying and difficult situations and learnt about Kids Helpline as an additional source of support when help is needed. We are proud of the way our students have engaged with these important messages and hope they continue to put them into action, not just this week, but every day.
