Senior Athletics Carnival - Date for your Diary
Fixtures
From the Assistant Principal, Cocurricular
Thank you to all who have contributed to a positive start to the winter season. We have been treated to some competitive fixtures across all sports and cultural activities. Whilst we have not necessarily been successful in all areas, it is good to see our students generally playing with spirit and enthusiasm.
I draw your attention once again to the ISA Code of Conduct below and ask that you read through the document and talk to your sons about its contents. The document is clear about expectations with regards to behaviour from players, coaches, spectators and officials. It is essential that we uphold the values of the Code of Conduct in all that we do. This reflects 'our standard'. Where standards slip, the college will act appropriately to address the situation.
If you feel that the Code of Conduct has been breached, either by our own SPX community members or our opposition schools, please address this through the St Pius X College communication channels (admin@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au), not direct to opposition schools. We take these breaches seriously and will address them.
By adhering to the Code of Conduct all participants will have a positive experience within the cocurricular life of the college.
Mr Matt Stearn - Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

Sydney10 5km Fun Run
Over the weekend, on Sunday, 17th of May our Pius athletes took part in the Sydney10 5km run held in Sydney Olympic Park. We were blessed with clear skies and cool weather, perfect for the run. This was a great opportunity for the students to warm up for the ISA Championships held on Wednesday, 20 May.
A special thanks to Mr Scott Steinman and our coaches, Ethan Li and Chris Zilifian for coming out to support our team.
Well done to all the students who participated.
Ms Leanne Lee - Cross Country Convenor
Football
A much better weekend of results for most teams with some dominant wins. A particular shout out to Mr Powell and the 16B side, who have been promoted to Division 2 from Division 4 last year. They came away with a hard fought 2-1 victory, their first Division 2 win in the Senior School. Mr Powell reflects that Pius dominated field position but conceded a goal against the run of play from a corner that was followed by a penalty awarded to BMGS that was subsequently saved by Aaron Klarich. The students then rallied with Cooper Thomason scoring just before half time and Josh Perry just before full time to secure the result. Well done 16B’s
This weekend we have all home fixtures.
Good luck to all teams.

Rugby
ISA Round 1 – St Patrick's College
St Pius X opened the season against a strong St Patrick’s College outfit, with mixed results across the grades. The senior teams showed competitiveness in narrow losses, while the 3rd XV secured a strong win. The 16A side displayed resilience in a hard-fought draw.
The 15s and 14s faced challenging opposition throughout the day, but there were valuable efforts and lessons across these matches. A standout highlight came from the 13B team, who delivered a dominant victory, showcasing the depth and promise within the program.
Rugby Team Photos Reminder – 30 May at Oxford Falls
The College will be conducting rugby team photographs on Saturday 30 May, at Oxford Falls, near the scoreboard on Chaplin 1 Oval.
In the event of wet weather, the photo location will be moved indoors. Any changes will be communicated on the day.
All players are required to arrive at allocated times as below prior to their scheduled warm-up and meet their coach near the scoreboard, ready for the team photo. Please ensure you are wearing your full rugby playing uniform and bring your school ID card for the photographer.
Rugby Supporters' Day – Saturday 30 May at Oxford Falls
We warmly invite all students and their families to join us for our annual Rugby Supporters' Day at Oxford Falls on Saturday 30 May. We encourage everyone to stay and show their support for our 1st and 2nd XV teams throughout the day. As a special thank you, students will receive a token for a complimentary sausage sandwich, available from 2:00 pm.
Many of our Year 12 students have been representing the College on the rugby field since Year 5, and it is a wonderful tradition to acknowledge and celebrate their final season. This event is also a fantastic opportunity for younger students to experience the spirit of St Pius X rugby and be inspired for their own future journeys.
We look forward to seeing you there, cheering loudly and showing your support!

Squash
Great round of squash on the weekend with close, high‑energy games across all divisions. The students competed with real determination, and it was excellent to see their hard work at training starting to shine through in match play.
A special mention goes to Eric Park, who stepped up into Division 2 and played two matches. He went down narrowly in both, but showed tremendous fight, composure, and athletic ability. A fantastic effort.
This week I noticed significant improvements across all St Pius X teams - better movement, smarter shot choices, and stronger focus on court.
Please continue attending training and taking on board the excellent tips and techniques Jake provides each week. His coaching is making a clear difference to the boys’ development.
Mr Paul Formosa - Squash Convenor
