International Bee Day

World Bee Day was on Wednesday, 20 May 2026 and celebrates the important role bees have on food security, biodiversity and ecosystem health. Without bees, food security is at risk as they help to pollinate three-quarters of human food diversity and many crops used to feed livestock. Bees play a vital role in preserving ecosystem health and provide pollination services for plants. Pope Francis always encouraged us to respect and take care of Earth, our common home. And one way we can do this is to make the natural environment as healthy as possible by looking after plants and animals alike.

Perhaps you could plant bee‑friendly flowers such as lavender, rosemary, bottlebrush, and native daisies to provide nectar and pollen. Avoid using pesticides which can harm pollinators. And provide water by placing a shallow dish with pebbles so bees can drink safely. Remember one out of every three mouthfuls of food relies on a bee!

Loving Creator,

We thank you for the gift of bees and all pollinators that bring life,

colour, and food to our world.

Help us to protect their habitats, care for creation,

and make choices that support the wellbeing of our planet.

May we learn from the bees’ gentleness, cooperation,

and purpose, and work together to build a future where all living things can thrive.

Amen.

Parish Connections

Our connection to the Parish of Our Lady of Dolours is alive and vibrant. Parish in Council was held last weekend and I want to thank those involved in this day, especially Mr Balboa and Patrick Hu who contributed to meaningful table discussions.

Youth Mass is held twice a Term (in Weeks 4 and 8) and provides the opportunity to share Eucharist with fellow students from Pius and Mercy and make social connections afterwards with a shared meal. It was terrific to see over 20 of our students and staff in attendance last weekend.

A reminder that the Year 9 Formation Day is being held at Oxford Falls on Friday 22 May. Students are to wear their sport uniform and come to school as normal. After Homeroom they will board buses for the days activities which will include prayer, reflection and hands on activities.

Students need to bring their own food, hat, and water bottle. If parents are picking their sons up from Oxford Falls, please ensure an email is sent to Mr McGeekie by Thursday 21 May.
