Enrol Your Child in the Next School Vision Screening by Eye Philosophy Optometrists Williamstown
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As the team at Eye Philosophy Optometrists prepare for the upcoming vision screening at Williamstown North Primary School on Thursday 14 August, we wanted to share some vital information about children's eye health, and why regular eye tests are so crucial for their development and learning.
Children's eyes are constantly developing, and good vision is fundamental for their success in school, sports, and everyday life. Many common childhood eye conditions have no obvious symptoms, and can go undetected without a professional eye examination. Early detection and treatment are key to preventing long-term vision problems.
If you’d like your child to participate in the school vision screening on Thursday 14 August 2025, simply complete this form: https://forms.gle/cf52jGWodVgkHNjV9.
When Does Your Child Need an Eye Test?
While vision screenings like the one we’ll be conducting is a great first step, they are not a substitute for a comprehensive eye examination by an optometrist. It is recommended that all children have their eyes checked annually to ensure any changes or developing issues are caught early, giving your child the best chance for clear vision and optimal learning.
Symptoms to Look Out For:
As parents, you are often the first to notice changes in your child's behavior or performance. Here are some common signs that may indicate your child needs an eye test:
Difficulty seeing the whiteboard or TV: Squinting, tilting their head, or sitting too close
Frequent headaches or eye strain: Especially after reading or screen time
Rubbing their eyes excessively
One eye turning in or out, poor hand-eye coordination, or clumsiness
Avoiding activities that require good vision (e.g., reading, drawing)
Complaining of blurry or double vision, or light sensitivity
Red, watery, dry or itchy eyes that persist
If you have noticed any of these symptoms recently, we recommend scheduling a bulk-billed children’s eye test during the upcoming school holidays at Eye Philosophy to ensure that your child is set up for success with the visual aids they may require in the new school term.
Eye Philosophy’s Commitment to Your Family's Vision
To support the eye health of the school community, we are pleased to offer a special $100 gift card for all Williamstown North Primary School students and family members to use towards your next purchase at Eye Philosophy Optometrists. This offer is valid for new and existing patients.
We look forward to seeing your child at the vision screening, or in-clinic, and helping ensure the best possible vision for all students and their families.
