On Thursday 19 June, eight of Willy North’s best Cross-Country runners attended the Western Metro Region Championships. In cold but still conditions, Ivy, Felix, Archie, Malia, Sienna, Indiana, Rosa, and Zara pushed themselves through 2000 and 3000m events, racing against top performing students from across Western Melbourne, Geelong, the Bellarine and Surf Coast.
All of our students displayed excellent determination, positivity and sportsmanship, each running to the best of their ability. Congratulations to all of our competitors.
On Thursday 24 July, Rosa represented Williamstown North Primary School at the State Cross-Country Championships, held at the Yarra Valley Racing Club in Yarra Glen.
This pinnacle event on the School Sport Victoria calendar is exclusively for the top 96 student-athletes who have progressed through their school, district, division, and regional levels of competition, on the pathway to the state final.
In brilliant running conditions, Rosa displayed excellent courage, perseverance and determination. Running with great athleticism, sportsmanship and positivity, against Victoria’s best competition.
Congratulations Rosa on representing our school at this event - we hope to see you on the track again in the future.

Book Week Celebrations and Costume Parade: CBCA Book Week is coming! This year’s Book Week will run from Monday 18 August to Friday 22 August (Week 5). This year’s theme is ‘Book an Adventure’, and it is also the 80th year of Book Week Celebrations. Throughout Book Week, students will enjoy a variety of fun activities, including a Masked Reader competition, buddy reads, book clubs, whole-school shared readings, quizzes, and a book fair. On Friday 22 August, there will be a costume parade where students are encouraged to dress up as one of their favourite book characters. The parade will be held at 9:30am on Tasmania (athletics track), and families are more than welcome to come along and watch the celebration.
Reading and Writing Together is Magic: Wednesday 20 August, 5:45pm-6:30pm
We are excited to announce the return of our annual student writing showcase event, Reading and Writing Together is Magic!
This evening event celebrates students’ literacy, as they present a short piece of their own original poetry to a small group of students and families. During class in the lead-up to the night, students will draft, revise, edit and publish their writing, and rehearse their presentation in preparation for reading it aloud in front of you and the rest of their audience.
On the night, students and families are allocated to small multi-aged groups, in classrooms across the school. As well as sharing their own writing, students will hear from peers in their year level, and from those in year levels above and below them. Our senior students host the event in each classroom, as part of their leadership development.
We encourage all students and families to participate. Look out for a Compass feed this week with information on how to register your child for the event.
Book Fair: Throughout Book Week, our annual Book Fair will take place in our school library. Our Book Fair is supplied by Lamont, and a portion of the proceeds go towards the purchase of new books for our school library. In the lead-up to the Book Fair, all classes will have an opportunity to visit and explore the books during a preview session. The Book fair will be open before and after school from Wednesday to Friday during Book Week (Monday 18 August to Friday 22 August (Week 5)).

The Premiers’ Reading Challenge is officially up and running, and Williamstown North Primary School is excited to be taking part!
The Challenge encourages students between early childhood and Year 10 to read a set number of books by 29th August 2025, with their efforts recorded online. A book list recommends age-appropriate texts that children might like to try, but any book counts towards their Challenge totals.
Last year, Victorian kids read a huge 3.4 million books between them – so this year’s Challenge sets an even higher goal of 3.5 million books, encouraging children to become voracious readers across different genres, authors and styles of literature.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
Click on the link to read the letter from the Premier Jacinta Allan. To find out more about the challenge, visit www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge
Your child's login details to the Premiers’ Reading Challenge platform will be sent home by classroom teachers. Using your child’s unique username and password, they will be able to record the books they have read throughout the challenge.
We hope to see as many students as possible complete the challenge! It is such a fun and exciting way to celebrate reading, and it is always such a pleasure to celebrate students’ participation in the challenge at its conclusion.
If you have any questions, you can contact our school’s Challenge coordinators, Irini Mavridis and Ben Roosenboom.
Happy reading! 🙂
Kind Regards,
