T-BALL
On Friday, our girls’s T-Ball team travelled to the Cheltenham Baseball Club to compete in the Kingston Division finals. None of the girls have played t-ball before this year. The girls have done extra sessions during their lunch breaks on hitting and catching with the mitts.
They won their first three games against Cheltenham PS, Bentleigh West PS and Caulfield Junior College. Lillian had glue in her glove and never dropped a thing, Yasmin belted ‘em out of the park every time and Isla’s arm never missed a baseman. The whole team improved each game. This earned our Bad News Bears a spot in the Grand Final - Nice going girls!
Le Page PS has a very experienced coach with a well drilled, disciplined team. They were a red hot favourite for the Grand Final. But sport delivers its own narrative. Unscripted drama that you simpy can’t write. It was a tight game and, after the 4th innings, we were behind. In the 5th, we batted first and scored 7 runs to put us in front. But for this to count, we had to get Le Page all out, otherwise the scores would stand after 4 innings. St Louis had 3 minutes to get 3 Le Page players out. And, with only seconds on the clock, they did! George describes the scenes on the sidelines as “pandemonium”.
Much thanks to George for his coaching, including the extra sessions. I would especially like to thank the parents for the networking required the girls all got to play. I’m not sure there are many similarities between our St Louis parents and the U.S. Army except to say we “Leave No One Behind”. In my 5 years at St Louis, parents have never failed to ensure teams get to where they need to be. What a day.
Next game is the Regional finals on Tuesday 18th August at the Mornington Baseball Club.
BIKE ED
The Year 6s will start their Bike Ed program this Wednesday. They will need to bring a bike and an accredited helmet to school. They will also be riding their bikes to the Edithvale PS “away” game on Friday 14th August.
