Maths Talent Quest 2026

After students conducted their 2026 MTQ investigations towards the end of second term, we received some exciting news. Congratulations to the students of Prep M and 1D, whose entries have been chosen, by the Mathematical Association of Victoria, to represent Victoria in the National Maths Talent Quest judging!

Prep M wiggled their way through a world of Maths using the famous picture storybook, 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' as their inspiration. Through counting the foods the caterpillar ate, recognising and creating patterns, exploring sequencing and positional language, identifying 2D shapes, comparing sizes, and much more, Prep M students engaged in rich, hands-on learning that connected numeracy with literature.

1D also based their investigation on a picture storybook, 'The Grouchy Ladybug'. Within this Maths Talent Quest, 1D students connected Eric Carle's beloved text to many different mathematical concepts, including ordinal numbers, analogue and digital time, subitising, financial Maths and 2D shapes.

In addition to these classes, Templestowe Park also had multiple students awarded a distinction in the hotly contested individual category. Within this division, students devised their own question that they then solved through their own personal mathematical investigation. Congratulations to the following, who were recipients of this impressive award.

Kian H - How do age and gender affect reaction time and do hobbies and practice improve it?

Eliza P - Cars

Willow B - How much money does a family save having an electric car compared to a diesel car?

Well done to these students, along with every other Templestowe Park student, who tackled 2026's MTQ with an abundance of curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm.

Grade 1 Camp – An Evening  Full of Fun and Adventure!

Our Grade 1 students had an amazing time at camp, enjoying a fun-filled evening of activities organised by Kaboom! There was something for everyone, with exciting challenges including Soccer Ghoulies, Basketball, Marble Run, Flying Fruits, Wacky Wheel, Bib Buddies, Circus Skills and an obstacle course. The children also danced, laughed and cheered as they tried new activities, challenged themselves, and worked together with their friends.

After all the excitement, everyone enjoyed delicious pizza and refreshing Zooper Dooper icy poles - a perfect way to recharge!

It was a memorable day filled with laughter, teamwork, and wonderful experiences.

Our Grade 1 students certainly made the most of every moment!

Grade 3 Mayor Visit

During Literacy sessions this term, Grade 3 have been learning about the local government and the importance it plays in supporting the everyday life of our community.  As part of our learning, Councillor Jim Grivas, the Mayor of Manningham Council, paid a visit to the students to share all about his special role.

The Mayor explained how councillors and the mayor are elected, what the Manningham Council does to improve residents' lives and even ran an activity, where students voted upon the local services that are most important to them.  He was very generous in offering his time, answering everyone's questions and also taking some photos - even letting some special students wear his very special Chain of Office!

We would like to thank Cr Jim Grivas for his visit - it really enriched the learning experience of our students!
