Science

In the Science room this term, we are studying Physics!

Level 5/6 students have begun their unit of study into light. They will be exploring light, light sources, ans how light travels. They will also learn ways in which light can be absorbed, transmitted, reflected or refracted by objects. They started off the term exploring a range of items and discussing with a partner whether they felt the items 'make light' or not. This lead to some deep discussions about reflection and how to determine if something is a source of light.

Level 3/4 students will be exploring heat energy and the way heat can be transferred from one object to another. This week they discussed their known facts about the subject and arranged a variety of heat related adjectives in order form the description 'coldest to warmest'. This highlighted a wide variety of ways temperatures can be described and allowed students to touch on the temperatures which water freezes and boils.

Grade 2 students are learning that 'push' and 'pull' are forces. They will explore the affect that weight has on a moving item and that push strength can change the distance or direction an item takes. We will be using Hotwheels tracks and cars to explore physics, and students will use what they learn to develop and build their own tracks later in the term.

Grade 1 students are exploring sound along with pitch and volume. They will  make materials vibrate and observe how vibrating materials can make sound. This will

Remember mighty scientists; look closely, ask freely, and seek answers to Earth's cool and crazy wonders!
