On Thursday 26 March, the Environment Captains and part of the team Archer, Talia Sophie and Iman, along with Mrs Bower, set off on an environment excursion with other schools.

We met at the office in the morning to mark the roll before hopping into Mrs Bower’s car and beginning the one-and-a-half-hour drive to Sorrento. Along the way, we chatted and even had some random fun debates about which chips are bigger: Hungry Jack’s, KFC or McDonald’s!

We arrived at around 10:30am and joined other Environment Captains before getting fitted with wetsuits and flippers. At 11:00am, we boarded the boat and set sail. Although the boat ride was a little freezing, it was exciting to spot dolphins in the water. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance to swim with them, but we were still very lucky to snorkel and see leafy sea dragons, which are mostly found in Australia.

After our time in the water, we returned to shore and headed back to school, finishing off an awesome and memorable day.

Resource Smart Schools Program

We are excited to relaunch the ResourceSmart Schools (RSS) program at Jells Park! It is an award-winning Victorian Government program that assists schools to embed ongoing sustainability practices and empowers our students to become active leaders in the environmental space. Through this program, students will explore real-world issues such as energy use, waste management, water conservation, and biodiversity.

As part of the relaunch, students will have opportunities to:

  • Audit our school’s energy and water usage
  • Reduce waste through recycling and composting initiatives
  • Participate in hands-on environmental projects
  • Lead sustainability campaigns within the school community
  •

Our Environment Captains and committed team of Waste Warriors will help drive these initiatives forward. Families will also be encouraged to get involved, helping us extend positive environmental practices beyond the classroom.

We look forward to sharing our progress and celebrating our achievements throughout the year as we aim to achieve our first star!

Stay tuned for updates and ways you can get involved.
