Curriculum Matters

Foundation
Wow!
It has been a fantastic first term, filled with so much to celebrate.
Our students have shown resilience, courage, a genuine love of learning and most importantly, kindness to each other.
We’ve put together some photos from some of the recent highlights, including our super speedy runners at Cross Country & of their happy smiles from our Teddy Bear Picnic.
Level 1
Level 1 students recently stepped back in time as part of their Inquiry Unit during an engaging “Toys Over Time” incursion.
Students explored a wide range of toys from both the past and present.
Throughout the session, students had the opportunity to play with traditional toys such as spinning tops, wooden puzzles, and dolls, as well as compare them with modern toys they are familiar with today. This hands-on experience sparked curiosity and lively discussions about how toys have changed over time.
Students also learned about the history behind different toys, discovering when and why they were created. They explored the materials used to make toys in the past, such as wood, metal, and fabric, and compared these with the plastic and technology-based materials commonly used today.
This incursion provided a wonderful opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of how daily life has evolved over time. It also encouraged them to think about sustainability, creativity, and how play has remained an important part of childhood across generations.
Level 2
Our Level 2 students had a fantastic time celebrating World Maths Day last week!
They participated in a range of engaging, hands-on activities, rotating through different stations.
Students enjoyed playing fun and strategic maths games such as Last Dino Standing and Get Out of My House, tested their knowledge with interactive Kahoot quizzes, and took their learning outdoors with active maths games.
It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, teamwork, and problem-solving on display. As we reach the end of the term, we are incredibly proud of all the hard work and growth the students have shown.
We wish everyone a safe and happy break!
Level 3
Last week, our Level 3 students took part in a range of exciting activities to celebrate all the learning they have done during Inquiry this term.
On Wednesday, we visited Melbourne Zoo, where students had the wonderful opportunity to hear from a zookeeper about the different ways animals are cared for and kept enriched in their environments.
Students continued their exploration of life cycles by learning about fossils.
They then had a chance to create their own fossils, mixing dough and carefully moulding and carving their chosen designs.
It was fantastic to see such creativity and enthusiasm.
Level 4
World Maths Day
On Wednesday the 25th of March, the Level 4 students celebrated World Maths Day. The students participated in a scavenger hunt across the school, followed by 15-minute workshops in each classroom. To finish off the day, we enjoyed a picnic outside while listening to fun mathematical music such as I Would Walk 500 Miles. It was a fantastic day filled with problem-solving, teamwork and plenty of excitement.
Inquiry
Level 4 students have been working very hard to finalise and present their first inquiry project for the year. Students explored a range of topics including the Earth’s water cycle, rocks, weather / climate, and forces. They did an excellent job showcasing their learning, and we were very impressed with the effort and creativity demonstrated in their projects.
Level 5
World Maths Day
They rotated through ten different activities, working on mathematical concepts such as coordinates, strategy, problem solving, chance & data, construction and plenty more.
Easter
On Tuesday 31st March, The Level 5 students celebrated Easter by decorating yummy biscuits.
Level 5 World Fair
On Thursday 2nd April, Level 5 students finished Term 1 with an amazing ‘World Fair’ in the gym.
As part of our Inquiry unit ‘Global Neighbours’, each class explored a different continent and in groups showcased a chosen country. The students’ stands were both fun and informative, focusing on many interesting areas including traditional foods, sports, festivals and cultural dress. It was also a wonderful activity to support Harmony Day and celebrate diversity and inclusion.
Well done Level 5!
Level 6
The GRIP Leadership Conference
On Thursday 26th March, all the Level 6 Leaders went on a train at 7:40 am to the Melbourne Exposition and Convention Centre for a day of learning all about how to be an even better leader.
The day was filled with fun, learning and laughing. Everybody got to know different people from other schools and shared ideas about how we can lead and improve our schools. There were fun games we played, and different segments hosted by different people that were passionate about that topic.
We covered topics such as what leaders should do at our school, ways to lead every day, how to generate ideas for our school and how to combat the challenges leaders face with a new idea.
We finished the day with a run through the wind and rain to our train (which we missed), but with a positive and inspired attitude towards our roles as leaders at Jells Park Primary School.

Egg Drop
On Wednesday the 1st of April Level 6 students competed in the Jells Park Egg Drop competition.
All students created a contraption that would hopefully have their egg be thrown over a volleyball net and survive. There were lots of splats and even chocolate eggs being thrown in the crowd.
The Level 6 students had lots of fun watching all the contraptions thrown high into the air.
