DONALD HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
On Wednesday the 7th of August Donald High School held their annual House Athletics for 2024. In perfect conditions students demonstrated their athletic skills to complete the majority of events. Relays and the 1500m events were held over to the following Monday due to time restraints.
There were some outstanding efforts throughout the day, none better than Hugo Funcke who won 9 events to score 66 championship points from a possible 77. Other outstanding efforts were Logan Geddes, Baxter Donnellon, Eliza Rotherham and Abby Griffiths who won 5 or more individual events.
The age group champions were as follows:
- Junior 12, 13,14 Yrs. Maya Funcke & Hugo Funcke
- Intermediate 15,16 Yrs. Eliza Rotherham & Baxter Donnellon
- 17, Open Yrs. Abby Griffiths & Logan Geddes
Overall house points for the day:
- Jeffcott = 525.5 1st
- Meyer = 479 2nd
- Banyenong = 409 3rd
Congratulations to Jeffcott for winning the 2024 Donald High School athletics sports. A big thank you to all the staff, house captains and students for devoting their time to making the day run smoothly. Thanks to parents for coming along to cheer and support all students involved.
The Interschool Athletics sports were held in Charlton on Friday the 16th of August.
Interschool Athletics 2024
The Interschool Athletics was held on Friday 16th August, 30 students from Donald High School participated in the event and they are all to be congratulated for their efforts, with the school finishing second in the overall school’s aggregate.
There were several outstanding individual results on the day, and we had four Age Group Champions. Logan Geddes took out the Open Boys Age Champion, Abby Griffiths the 17 years girls, Baxter Donnellon the 15-year-old boys and Hugo Funcke amassed 91 points to win the 14 year old boys!
As well as having four age champions we had four students who finished second in their respective age groups: Maya Funcke, Samual Mortlock, Milla Adams and Luca Rice.
Winners of events on the day, and therefore students who have qualified for the Zone Athletics in Bendigo were:
- Scarlett Funcke: 17 Girls 200m
- Hugo Funcke:14 Boys 800m, High Jump and Tripple Jump
- Abby Griffiths:17 Girls Long Jump,100mB,200m,1500m, High Jump
- Baxter Donnellon:15 Boys:100m,200m, High Jump, Long Jump
- Logan Geddes: Open 100m
- Milla Adams: 14 Girls 200m, High Jump
- Luca Rice:16 Boys Shot Put, 16 Boys High Jump
- Samual Mortlock:13 Boys 100B
Abby Griffiths set a new record for the 17 years High Jump jumping 1.50m breaking the old record set in 2011 by 6 cm.
The relays were an exciting affair with Donald doing very well and winning:
- 13-year-old Girls (Maya Funcke, Evie Donnellon, Layla Hepworth, Layla Griffiths)
- 15 years Boys (Baxter Donnellon, Lyric Davis, Charlie Burke, Luca Rice)
- 17 years Girls (Scarlett Funcke, Abby Griffiths, Emersyn Gowlett, Alyssa Hepworth).
It was great to see Donald students competing hard and supporting their peers. Our students are to be commended for their participation and positive attitude. A big thank you to Mrs. Griffiths and Miss McLoughlan who helped on the day.
The Loddon Mallee Region Interschool Athletics will be held on Thursday 10th October, which is in the first week of Term 4. Students who have qualified will be given further details as the date gets closer.
North West Zone School Shoot
Ripper of a day to be outside of the classroom, but still learning.
Miss O'Brien with Donald Field & Game member Peter Pendlebury travelled across to Kerang with Hayden, Charlie, Marty and Lyric to compete in the NWZ School Shoot Championships (DTL - Down the Line). The competition was held on Thursday 15th August. It consisted of two rounds of 10 targets.
Congratulations Hayden on taking out 3rd place in the Junior Boys divisions after a shoot off. Hayden has now been invited to the Victorian School Shoot Championship (DTL) in Echuca.
Well done to all four students for taking up the opportunity and trying their best, they represented Donald High school proudly.
Honourable mention to Marty who shot very well for his first time of shooting at a DTL school shoot competition.

We wish Hayden all the best at the next level in Echuca.
