School Connections
In May, we visited the Grade 1/2 classroom for a school connection session. We began our visit sitting on the floor and learning about the story for the day. It was called "Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller" by Adam Jackson and is this years National Simultaneous story time book. We learnt about the characters in the story (Australian animals) and did a movement session with Mie Mie with each character having a different movement for the children to act out.
Next we watched the story of Luna Roo on the big screen. We then paired up with a Grade 1/2 child who helped the kinder children to make a Kangaroo from paper. They worked together to color and cut their craft. It was great to see the kinder children listening to and engaging with the school children.
The kinder children were proud of their collaborative Kangaroo craft. As well as giving the kinder children a glimpse into school life, todays visit provided opportunity for developing literacy skills, fine motor skills and listening skills. It was a valuable learning experience supporting the transition from kinder to school.
