Welcome back to term 3 at IPS

Term 3 has started with a bang! Students chatted excitedly as they came through the school gates on Monday. It's lovely to see how much they enjoy school and being part of the fabulous Ivanhoe PS community.

Today we were straight into the years 3-6 Athletics day at the Collingwood Athletics track. It was fabulous to see students displaying our school values. Persistence and Resilience were in abundance along with some wonderful displays of Confidence and Respect.

Thank you to parents who came along to volunteer or lend your support. All our students appreciate getting cheered along and it was clear that they had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Lost Property

We wish to sincerely thank Sarah Embling (Piper's mum) who took home all the lost property from the under the shelter near the Collaboration Space. Sarah returned to school on Monday morning with boxes and boxes stuffed full of neatly laundered uniforms, all organised into sizes and with an accompanying list student names. At our first assembly, this made it so much easier for our school captains to help return belongings to students.

We haven't even been back to school for a full week yet and the lost property boxes are beginning to fill up again. Please make sure you check all the lost property locations:

In the hall foyer.
Under the shelter near the Collaboration Space (Old Canteen).
Outside the Beehive.
Outside the Out of School Hours Care Program.

*For health and safety reasons food containers and drink bottles will be disposed of over the break.

School Disco

In order to attend, parents must make sure they have signed up and provided consent on the Compass Event.

Session 1

5:45 pm – 7:00 pm

Foundation – Grade 3

Session 2

7:15 pm – 8:30 pm

Grade 3 – Grade 6

Grade 3 students may attend either Session 1 or Session 2 (but not both).

National Test of AusAlert

We’ve been advised that a national test of AusAlert will happen across Australia on Monday 27 July at 2 pm.

AusAlert is a new, national emergency warning system. It sends warning messages to compatible mobile devices during emergencies, to keep people informed so they can act quickly. The Australian Government plans to launch AusAlert in October 2026.

On Monday 27 July at 2 pm, all compatible mobile devices will receive a Critical Alert. Compatible mobile devices include phones, tablets, smart watches, safety watches and some vehicle devices. These will vibrate and make a loud, siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds. This will happen even if they are on silent or do not disturb. The message will clearly state that it is a test. No action is required from the test.

To minimise disruption, student phones and smart devices should always be switched off and stored securely with a teacher during the school day. Students who use their mobile phone as part of a documented exception can continue to do so. If appropriate, they can turn their phone off during the test.

You may also wish to let your child know that if they see or hear the alert, school staff will support them. You can learn more at AusAlert: children and teens. Information is also available in other languages.

Safe phones

AusAlert may increase risk for people experiencing violence, especially if they live with someone who uses violence. Alerts may expose safety devices.

If you or someone you know has a hidden device, the best way to stay safe during the test is to:

turn offyour mobile device or put it in aeroplane mode
keep your device off or in aeroplane mode for 24 hours.

Silent mode and do not disturb will not stop the alert.

2026 Year 6 Camp Fundraiser

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser – Sunday June 28th

The day began in true Melbourne fashion: thick fog so heavy you couldn’t even see the other side of the road. It was cold, it was damp, and for a while, sales looked a little gloomy. The BBQ wasn’t just cooking sausages, it was a source of heat for survival.

But at around 10:30, the fog lifted… and business absolutely exploded.

For the next three to four hours, the team was flat out. At one point, our line was longer than the Bunnings line. We had a steady mix of school families and members of the public coming through all day.

We even had to make two emergency runs to Coles, buying extra sausages and bread each time. By the end of the day, we had purchased 23 packs of 26 sausages, and cooked through at least 20 packs. That’s over 500 sausages sold, plus 75 drinks! This money raised, along with the huge amount raised at our Year 6 Arcade Day, will substantially reduce the cost of our Year 6 Canberra Tour.

But the real highlight of the day wasn’t the sales. It was the people.

We had a fantastic group of volunteers, many experienced hands who kept everything running smoothly. They stayed through the busiest periods, kept the BBQ going, stocked sauces, served customers, and worked together brilliantly.

And then… the Year 6 students.

These students were absolute champions. They worked multiple shifts, took cash, served sausages, restocked supplies, greeted customers, and did it all with smiles, energy, and not a single complaint. Their presence made a huge difference. Customers could see exactly who their money was supporting, and it created a wonderful sense of connection. They represented our school with pride, maturity, and teamwork. We could not be more impressed.

Your efforts made the fundraiser not just successful, but enjoyable, safe and well‑run.

The Bunnings Sausage Sizzle raised approximately $1400 and together with the Arcade Game Project fundraising, the total is close to $5000 that will reduce the cost of the Canberra camp for each family attend

Please note that ICAS entries for Ivanhoe Primary School have closed as of Friday July 10th.

If you are yet to have enrolled your child in the ICAS assessments through our school portal, they will not be able to participate in ICAS assessments at IPS this year. If you are wanting to enrol your child in ICAS external to IPS, please contact ICAS directly at ICAS 2026 – Registration

School Uniform

Reminder for families: Ivanhoe Primary School has a school uniform policy. This means that all students should wear the appropriate school uniform. IPS logos are not a necessity but we ask that if your children are going to wear a generic brand, please make sure the clothing items are of the correct colour and do not have large logos splashed across the front.

Safe and Considerate Driving Around School

Streets around our school are narrow and get congested at school drop off and pick up times. Please remember to drive cautiously and slowly as children can be unpredictable.

I implore you not to drive into neighbours' driveways and do u-turns in the street. When you do this, not only do you hold up everyone else as they wait for you to complete your manoeuvre, you also risk making a catastrophic error, especially when rushing.

I also beg you to be a considerate member of our school community and please don't park your car in the Kiss and Go spots. When you do this, it simply causes more congestion and those families who do need to quickly drop off are denied the opportunity.

Foundation Enrolments for 2027

Important: Enrolments for Foundation 2027 must be submitted by 31st July 2026.

Please make sure you submit your enrolments for children beginning Foundation in 2027 by 31st July. This helps us work out classes and staffing for the following year.

Finally

A message from Mr Kent ...

I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing break and has returned refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning. We have a wonderful term ahead, with plenty of highlights, including our Athletics program, the School Disco and many other activities that make our school such a great community.

I wish I could be there to share these special occasions with all our students, staff and families. Unfortunately, my recovery from the cycling accident that resulted in a broken leg is taking a little longer than I would like. The good news is that I am making steady progress and, with the support of my rehabilitation team, family and friends, I continue to get stronger each week. I am looking forward to being back at school as soon as I am safely able.

My accident has certainly reinforced one very important message. If you ride a bike, or a scooter or skateboard; whether it’s to school, for exercise or just for fun please always wear a properly fitted helmet. While I sustained a significant leg injury, my helmet did exactly what it was designed to do and undoubtedly prevented a much more serious outcome. It’s a simple habit that can make an enormous difference.

Thank you to everyone for your kind messages, cards and ongoing support throughout my recovery. They have meant a great deal to me. I look forward to seeing everyone back at Ivanhoe Primary School in the near future.
