At Heathmont College, we believe some of the most memorable learning happens beyond the classroom.

Term 3 provides a wide range of enrichment opportunities designed to challenge, explore new interests, develop new skills and connect with like-minded students.

Below are several exciting opportunities beginning over the coming weeks.

🌱 Bush Tucker Garden – Founding Crew

Expressions of Interest Now Open

Years 7–10

Be the first. Leave your mark on the school.

We're seeking a small team of students to become the Founding Crew of Heathmont College's Signature Outdoor Project.

Students will work alongside a horticulture specialist to design, build and maintain a Bush Tucker Garden that will become a lasting feature of our school for future generations.

Students will:

• Design outdoor spaces
• Learn practical horticulture skills
• Work safely with tools and equipment
• Explore sustainability and Australian native plants
• Help create a lasting legacy for Heathmont College

📅 Begins: Friday 31 July (Periods 2 & 3)

🏕 Student Leadership Outdoor Adventure Camp

Applications Now Open

Years 7–10

Applications are now open for the Student Leadership Outdoor Adventure Camp, to be held at Rubicon Outdoor School from 26–30 October 2026.

This unique experience is designed for students who wish to develop leadership skills, resilience, confidence and teamwork through outdoor adventure activities.

Students may:

• Apply themselves
• Be nominated by a peer

Each application must include a teacher advocate.

Approximately 60 places are available across Years 7–10.

Approximate student contribution: $110

Completed application forms should be returned to the Front Office by Tuesday 28 July.

Students can see Ms Constance or access information & application link through Compass.

💡 ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

Victorian Coding Challenge

Years 7–8 and Years 9–10

Students with an interest in programming and problem solving are encouraged to participate in the Victorian Coding Challenge.

Using the Python programming language, students complete eight online modules designed to extend computational thinking, algorithm design and coding skills.

Students work at their own pace and receive immediate feedback throughout the challenge.

National Mathematics Summer School (NMSS)

Current Year 11 Students

Applications are now open for Australia's premier mathematics enrichment program.

Held at the Australian National University each January, the National Mathematics Summer School brings together approximately 75 of Australia's highest-achieving mathematics students for two weeks of advanced mathematical learning, university experiences and collaboration with like-minded peers.

Applications close: 28 August 2026

Students interested in applying should speak with Ms Ganis.

Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program

Current Year 10 Students

High-achieving Year 10 students are encouraged to apply for the prestigious Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program at the University of Melbourne.

This selective two-year program provides:

• University enrichment experiences
• Academic workshops
• Leadership development
• Mentoring
• Access to university resources and networks
• Potential pathways to scholarships and guaranteed entry opportunities

📅 COMING UP THIS TERM

Project Barista

Project Barista gives Year 10 students the opportunity to develop practical café, customer service and hospitality skills while working alongside experienced professionals.

Students will complete barista training before applying their skills through authentic café and service experiences.

🔬 Global Design Challenge – KIOSC Forensic Science

Year 9

Selected Year 9 students will soon commence the Global Design Challenge, an international STEM program run in partnership with KIOSC.

Working collaboratively with students from around the world, participants will investigate a real forensic science case using scientific inquiry, critical thinking and teamwork.

🎭 Performing Arts

Heathmont College presents Sweeney Todd

10–14 August 2026

Our annual production returns this term.

We warmly invite families and members of our school community to support our talented cast, musicians and production team in what promises to be another outstanding performance.

Year 7 Melbourne Experiences

Year 7 students will visit the Melbourne Museum and participate in the Koorie Heritage Trust River Camp Walk.

These experiences will support students to deepen their understanding of history, culture, place and First Nations perspectives.

Year 8 Organ Pipes Field Trips

Year 8 students are scheduled to participate in field trips to Organ Pipes National Park.

9Life Program

Our Year 9 students continue to enjoy a range of authentic learning experiences throughout Term 3.

Year 9 Health Day

Year 9 students will participate in a series of health and wellbeing workshops facilitated by the Heathmont College Wellbeing Team and the Black Dog Institute.

Due to the size of the year level, the program will run across two days.

Wednesday 29 July & Wednesday 26 August 

Students will participate in the following workshops:

• It’s Time We Talked: Porn
• Contraception and sexually transmitted infections
• From Gaming to Gambling

LITERATURE

Year 11 Literature students will visit the Melbourne Museum and the National Gallery of Victoria for the Voices of Country experience.

Date: Tuesday 28 July

The excursion will provide students with opportunities to engage with First Nations stories, perspectives, artworks and cultural expression.

WELLBEING

A range of wellbeing programs will continue throughout Term 3, supporting students to build confidence, strengthen relationships and develop strategies for managing challenges.

Programs include:
