STEM News: Coding Challenge Success and Exciting Term 3 Ahead!
On Tuesday 17 June, our Year 5/6 students took part in the Coding Challenge run by the Australian Maths Trust (AMT). After 3–4 weeks of learning Turtle Blockly Coding, students applied their knowledge of loops, conditionals, mathematics and logical operators, logical thinking, debugging, and more.
We’re thrilled to announce some outstanding results. Congratulations to Ryda C and Josh P for achieving a perfect score, and to Luke D, Gemma L, and Matthew T for receiving a Distinction. Well done to all students for embracing this challenge!
Looking ahead to Term 3, we have a range of exciting STEM opportunities lined up:
STEM MAD Competition: Our Year 5/6 students are beginning their journey in this innovative design competition, where they will work on creating solutions to real-world problems.
Cubing Workshop: We’re excited to welcome Lennon Hughes, a young, local delegate from the World Cube Association, who will be speaking to our Years 3–6 students about cubing. Students will get hands-on experience with various cubes and even try out official competition timers. Our very own speedcuber, Che, will be helping Mrs Patterson coordinate this event.
Science in Action: Dr Hayden Dalton from the University of Melbourne’s School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences will visit our 5/6 students to share his expertise. We’re also hoping students will get the chance to explore some cutting-edge microscopes during this session.
We are looking forward to a fantastic term of learning, exploration, and innovation. Well done to all of our STEM students — we can’t wait to see what you achieve next!
