Middle School News

Upper Primary (Years 5-6)
Upper Primary students have commenced swimming lessons and have been enjoying their time at the pool. Students have been practicing kicking, blowing bubbles, and floating. This Term, Year 5/6 students are looking at how to write a procedural text.
Students have been following some procedures such as making sock puppets, paper boats, and making pancakes.
Lower Secondary (Years 7-8)
The Lower Secondary students have been enjoying engaging in hands-on experiments as part of our Inquiry topic exploring the different states of matter. They have investigated solids, liquids and gases, as well as what happens when they are mixed together. So far, students have enjoyed experiments including volcanoes, making playdough, elephant toothpaste and many more.
As always, the Year 7/8 students have been enjoying Travel Training, which has included visiting different shopping centres to order lunch, providing valuable opportunities to practise their communication and community access skills. This week, half of the students travelled to Highpoint Shopping Centre to play arcade games at Timezone, while the other half of the cohort will enjoy the same experience next week.
To support our Writing program, the Year 7/8 students have been learning about biographies and have begun working through the writing cycle to create their own autobiographies. This learning links to our mentor text for Reading, Come Over to My House, which features character biographies and celebrates the many different ways people live. Students have thoroughly enjoyed reading this inclusive story while developing their reading comprehension skills. Throughout the unit, they have been building their vocabulary and practising key comprehension strategies, including predicting, inferring, making connections, and summarising.
