Secondary School
The theme of this week's assembly was 'Fun'. Led by the Captains of Mokare House and our School Captains, the assembly delivered an important message that the students felt was worth sharing with their peers.
Each week, one of our Houses hosts the assembly, with the House leaders selecting the theme. This week, they focused on the importance of what we adults often call work-life balance: making time for the activities we enjoy and that help us recharge and maintain our wellbeing.
Whether they realised it or not, their message aligns beautifully with GSG's Strategic Plan and our focus on Joy. It is one of the many things I value about this school: a community that not only recognises its responsibility to pursue excellence in academic education, but also embraces the holistic development of young people, nurturing them into leaders who flourish in all aspects of life.
Having fun is just as important as being serious, and finding the right balance between the two is an essential part of living a healthy and fulfilling life.
We also congratulated our Year Seven to Year Nine Merit Award recipients from Semester One.

Albany Snake Run
The Albany Snake Run, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, has inspired much creative work in our Year Nine Arts classes this year. Last week, our Painting and Drawing class visited the site to enjoy both some lovely weather and an enjoyable time sketching en plein air, creating designs that will be transferred onto their paintings.

ICAS Examinations
ICAS season is underway again for 2026, with the first assessments in Writing and Digital Technologies taking place on Monday. This week, it was wonderful to see many students return after participating last year, alongside others sitting their very first ICAS assessment. Some knew what to expect, while others were quietly stepping into something new and unfamiliar. With assessments in English, Science and Mathematics still to come, we have multiple sitting dates scheduled over the next month.
What I value most about ICAS is that the result is only one part of a student's story. It provides each student with an opportunity to step beyond regular classroom learning, engage with unfamiliar and often demanding problems, and discover what they can achieve alongside students from across Australia.
For some students, the results will confirm strengths they already recognise. For others, they may reveal new capabilities or help identify the next opportunity for growth. Regardless of the outcome, every student has chosen to embrace a challenge designed to stretch their thinking, and I believe that commitment deserves recognition long before the results are known.
We expect to receive the results at the beginning of next term, and I look forward to sharing more about our students' achievements when they become available.

GSSSSA Football Carnival
Our Year Nine and Ten students proudly represented GSG at the GSSSSA AFL Carnival, enjoying a fantastic day of competition, teamwork and school spirit. Both teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship and determination throughout the carnival, representing GSG with pride both on and off the field.
The boys had an exceptional carnival, winning the Grand Final after losing just one game throughout the day. Their teamwork, resilience and skill were on full display, culminating in a well-deserved championship victory.
Our girls also enjoyed a strong tournament, competing fiercely in every match to secure an impressive fourth-place finish. Their commitment, effort and positive attitude throughout the day reflected the values of GSG and made the school proud.
Congratulations to all the students who took part, as well as the staff who supported the teams. It was a fantastic day of football, and the future of the game is certainly bright at GSG.

MasterChef VACS Results
Baudin take top honours in the scone bake-off!
Well, they did it! After finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard last week, Baudin followed through on their promise to switch up their strategy, taking out this week's MasterChef scone competition with their banana and Biscoff scones.
Coming in second place with their lemonade scones was Camfield, closely followed by Mokare and Wilson.
Results to date:
- Camfield and Mokare: 8 points
- Baudin: 7 points
- Wilson: 6 points
It's still a very close race, so performance in next week's sausage roll challenge will be vital!
