Servant Leadership  

At Great Southern Grammar, we encourage our people to lead with humility, compassion and by playing a role that helps others to shine. Most of all, role model your values through your actions and give others permission to do the same.

Another priority for us is to be of the community, not to position ourselves as a separate 'community within a community'.  Our strong affiliation with the Great Southern Griffins allows us to do that each and every week. It is fantastic to see our students out there every week representing our school with pride, and to see our parents and staff engaging with community sport and also with the school by coaching and managing teams.   

It is also wonderful to see our students and staff representing both the school and the wider community in Albany’s arts scene through our involvement in the Albany Eisteddfod, the upcoming Radioactive concert at the Albany Entertainment Centre with Albany Senior High School and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) students, and our upcoming Art Exhibition at the Vancouver Arts Centre.   

In terms of Community Service, our Year Six students complete their Anchor badge by undertaking some project-based learning that requires up to thirty hours of community service. Our Secondary School students complete community service through their Values and Christian Service (VACS) program on Wednesdays. Year Eleven Certificate IV Business students help the Albany Community Foundation’s Shelter Together event to raise awareness and funds to combat homelessness in our local community, for which we held a fundraising event at school this week.   

As well as the greater Albany community, we work to serve and help our students, parents and staff to feel a sense of belonging and a right to be heard here at school. This is evident in our recent wide-ranging whole school survey that will help inform our priorities for next year, through open invitations for parents to come to assemblies and other events and be a part of our daily life, and through our student leadership program and student committees. This term, we launched our Year Eleven leadership nomination process as we seek to find our next group of committed servant leaders, ready to grow our school through their standards and actions.
