End of year social events

Can you believe it’s that time of year?

The all-school social event at Robinson Reserve last term was such a success, we’re running it again to say farewell to the 2023 school year. This is an opportunity for families across all grade levels to socialise together and make new friends.

Mark your calendar: Wednesday 20 December, from 1.30pm at Robinson Reserve, Coburg.

Keep an eye on the WhatsApp groups and Facebook group for more details as the end of term gets closer.

We’re also excited to get all our parent and carer volunteers from the year together for a casual catchup at the Woodlands Hotel (84 Sydney Road, Coburg) on Tuesday 5th December from 7pm. If you have volunteered this year for a PnC fundraising event (or school community event e.g. Breakfast Club, Open Streets, craft group, lunchtime clubs, library mural, community garden), we warmly welcome you to join us.

Comedy Night and Referendum BBQ wrap up

What can we say about our two big events last month but THANK YOU! To the volunteers, the donors, the organisers, the helpers on the day – none of it could have happened without a big group effort.

After lots of number-crunching, the totals are in…

Referendum BBQ: $4,910 profit

Comedy Night: $9,168 profit

All funds will go towards the new school playground in 2024, which will be enjoyed by the students at Merri-bek for years to come.

A huge thanks to Kate Longley for taking the stellar photos of comedy night. It truly was a MAGICal night!

Join the PnC in 2024

Several members of the PnC are finishing up at Merri-bek this year, or retiring from their roles. We thank them for their service over the years and we are excited to welcome new faces to the group in 2024.

Here’s a sneak peek of some PnC Committee roles available from February 2024. Email merribek.pnc@gmail.com if you’re interested in helping out and making new friends in the process!

Secretary

Come to our monthly, one-hour meetings and help record the minutes – it’s an enjoyable and effective way to contribute and get to know what’s happening in the school community. This role would suit someone who wants to contribute in a standard way a couple of times per term.

Communications

Help promote PnC events and fundraising initiatives to the school community through messaging apps, Compass, posters and flyers. This role may suit someone who prefers to help with PnC events remotely. Lots of templates provided!

Treasurer

Keep our fundraising and spending totals in check and help with event budgets before and after each event. This role would suit someone who is organised and wants to contribute in an administrative way to the PnC.

BBQ Boss

Coordinate the running of fundraising BBQs across the school year (approx. 1 per term). With instruction provided and helpers already in the community, it’s a great way to help contribute $ to our school fundraising goal.

Coffee Captain

Coordinate the running of social coffee mornings across the school year (approx. 2 per term). With instruction provided and helpers already in the community, it’s an easy way to contribute to the social aspect of our school community.

One-off events…

If you’re not able to volunteer in an ongoing capacity, there are many other opportunities across the school year that could use your skills, help and enthusiasm. From the Comedy/Trivia nights, to Mothers/Fathers day stalls, admin, graphic design, and more – we encourage all parents and carers at MPS to consider how they could contribute a few hours of time to help our school thrive in 2024.

Year-level WhatsApp groups for 2024

Keep an eye out for a message about 2024 WhatsApp groups. If your child/ren are moving into a new composite cohort, or starting in Prep, links to groups will be shared in the last weeks of term.
