Book Week 2025

Book Week 2025

This year, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) is celebrating its 80th Children's Book Week! Since 1945, they have brought children and books together to celebrate books through Children's Book Week.

This year's theme is Book an Adventure.

Book Week Parade

Along with the many and varied Book Week activities that we will do this year, we will celebrate with a Book Week Parade at our school assembly on Monday 25th August at 9:00 am.

On this day, children are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character or as a character matching the theme. If your child's costume is not suitable to wear all day, please send along some other clothes and shoes they can change into after the parade.

A few ideas for Book Week costumes:

  • Mythical creatures

  • Harry Potter characters

  • Fairy tales or nursery rhymes

  • Pirates

  • Alice in Wonderland

  • Wizard of Oz

  • Dr Seuss stories

  • Roald Dahl characters

  • Adventurers such as Tintin

  • Mr Men and Little Miss Characters

Book Week Performance

At 2:00 pm on Monday 25th August the children in Years Prep to 4 will experience the re-enactment of one of the shortlisted books. Meerkat Productions will bring to life The Garden of Broken Things by Freya Blackwood.

This is a beautiful story that celebrates  curiosity and the joy of listening.

Illustrator Visit - Ben Wood

Book Week starts early for the children in Year 3 - 6 with a visit from Ben Wood, the illustrator of the very popular Real Pigeons and Hello Twigs series of books.  Ben will be at Corpus Christi on Thursday 14th August at 2:00pm. If children have any of Ben's books they are welcome to bring them to school and Ben will sign them.

Happy reading!
