Student Engagement & Wellbeing

The School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) team continues work on strengthening student wellbeing, engagement and achievement. This year, the team is working towards the objectives that are aligned with Keysborough Secondary College’s Annual Implementation Plan. As a team we are approaching this with within three key areas: a Data Team, a Professional Learning Team, and a Community Connections and Policy & Procedures Team.

Our Data Team will be using data about student behaviour and student attendance.

  • The collection, analysis and reporting of SWPBS data through Compass
  • Ongoing monitoring of attendance, behaviour and wellbeing data
  • Embedding and refining our whole-school School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports.

We are strengthening consistent study hall expectations, clarifying late-arrival and pass procedures, and ensuring timely communication with families. We have tiered interventions strategies that are being implemented to support students attendance, behaviour and wellbeing, ensuring that support is proactive and supportive of each student’s individual needs.

By using data thoughtfully, we are better able to identify trends, celebrate improvements and intervene early when students require additional support.

Building Staff Capacity Through Professional Learning

Our Professional Learning Team is focused on building staff confidence and consistency in SWPBS. Our key priorities include:

  • Delivering professional learning on consistent SWPBS and engagement strategies
  • Strengthening shared expectations across classrooms
  • Supporting staff to provide clear, consistent feedback to students

A particular focus this year is building teacher capacity to communicate effectively with parents and carers about a child’s progress both academically and behaviourally. This includes sharing positive feedback as well as constructive conversations when support is needed. Strong partnerships between home and school are important to support student success, and clear communication is a cornerstone of this work.

Strengthening Community Connections and Processes

Our Community Connections and Policy & Procedures Team is working to ensure our systems are clear, fair and supportive for all members of our school community. This includes:

  • Expanding our recognitions system to celebrate positive behaviour, effort and growth
  • Reviewing and strengthening policies to build consistency and transparency around student behaviour.
  • Providing targeted year-level and cohort opportunities to strengthen student voice and agency
  • Strengthening communication with families about School Wide Student Behaviour Supports.

By celebrating positive contributions and maintaining clear, consistent expectations, we aim to create an environment where students feel safe, valued and motivated to succeed.

We look forward to continuing this important work in partnership with our students, families and wider community.
