Year 6 News

A few weeks ago, we entered two of our Year 6 students into the Rotary Public Speaking Contest where students had the opportunity to give a speech in front of 100 people and compete against other students from nearby schools. Zach P and Torben K did us proud, both blowing away the audience and the judges with their confidence and enthusiasm. A special mention to Torben who finished in 2nd place overall and will move on to the next round in November.

Last week on Thursday, we celebrated the upcoming wedding of Miss Booth with all the Year 6 students. They showered her with party food, balloons, gifts and completed a round of ‘How well do you know Miss Booth?’ trivia. Thank you to all the parents who supplied some party food and made it such a special time for Miss Booth and the Year 6 students.

We also held our annual Year 6 Earn and Learn Market Day last week. The Year 6 students have spent the last 4 weeks preparing their market stalls, making token boxes, logos and posters, writing, filming and editing commercials using their knowledge of persuasive writing strategies and media, and they made flyers and business cards to promote their businesses around the school. 

We had a huge range of stalls on show, including mini golf, high jump, soccer, mini basketball, lucky ducks, hand painting, origami, guess the song, karaoke, lucky dips, raffles, balloon animals and more! Every customer had a huge smile on their face as they spent their tokens at the market.

A huge thanks to all the parents who helped ‘sponsor’ the market stalls and made it a successful (and fun!) learning experience for all involved. We couldn’t run these days without your continued support. All funds raised will go towards the Year 6 Graduation.
