Years 3 to 6 House Athletics

Students in Years 3 to 6 came dressed in their House colours ready to have fun competing for House points at our House Athletics on Thursday 28 May at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in Burwood East.

They participated in several individual events throughout the day, which included long jump, triple jump, shot put, sprints, discus, high jump and relays. The children moved around the events in their age group teams.

The Essex Heights spirit came alive when the children were cheering loudly for their teammates during the events. They were supporting other age groups while they were waiting for their turn, especially when students were running in the 100m and 200m sprints.

It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves and supporting their House.

Thanks to all the staff who helped throughout the day with marshalling, measuring and timing the activities. Special thanks to Mrs Cotterell for presenting the top four placegetters with their ribbons and Miss Kemp for assisting with the co-ordination of the day.

A massive thank you to the following parent volunteers for assisting with the events too:  John Colley, Kat Pryde, Edwina McCarthy, Sa Feng, Shaurya Bhattarai, Sheree Spiteri, Daniela Rende, Candice Hu, Jieting Luo, Elima Pozenel, Joel Pozenel, Carly Gay, Sophie Beecroft, Sam Doolan, Alison Patchett and Dinusha Ranasinghe.

Your support was greatly appreciated.

It was a terrific day!

Monique Hocking

The winning house was announced at the Assembly on Monday 1 June:

Congratulations to Nolan House!

Thank you to everyone who participated and earned House points last week. We would like to thank Miss Kemp and Ms Hocking for organising this event every year. Also, a huge thanks to the parent helpers and teachers for being supportive to everyone. We hope everyone had a great fun day at the track.

I competed in the 12–13-year-old division cross country at Monash Waverley Division and congratulations to everyone who participated.

Division cross country brought together students from many different schools, giving us the opportunity to compete, represent our schools and challenge ourselves.

Every participant should be very proud of their achievements. Simply qualifying for division cross country is the result of hard work, training and dedication. Whether someone finished at the front of the race or further back, every runner showed courage by stepping up to compete and giving their best effort.

I would like to thank Ms Hocking and volunteers who supported us through this journey.

Illary – Year 6

On the 2nd June, I competed in Monash Waverley Division Cross Country at Lewis Park. It was a cold and wet morning and there were over 60 students. I managed to overtake a few people in the 3km race and came 18th. I felt tired and exhausted after the race. At the same time, I am proud to represent my school in such a big event. A big shout out to Ms Hocking, all parent helpers, my mum and friends who were there to cheer us on.
